Hey guys I'm looking to get a new purchase a new suppressor ready rimfire. Not sure if 17 or 22 first. Right now I'm looking at these Ruger american target. Any better suggestions in that price range or less?

Rifle?

Doing what with?

What is needed vs what is wanted?

These are all relevant. I have 4 rimfires and 1 can that moves between them. My favorite is a Savage trainer that is the size of a full size rifle, and it is a great, great trainer.

But it's heavy. So when I need something lightweight, it is almost always the 10/22.

With a detail or 2 about purpose, we can help.

For the record, I love 22 and never bought in to the 17 craze, but I know many did.

Hard to disagree with your first choice! The CZ as mentioned is close in price. I think the choice probably comes down to magazines. You get 10/22 mags with the Ruger. The only better mags out, in my opinion, are from Browning T-Bolts. Browning has suppressor ready models, but they're too far out of price range to consider. And they're lightweight almost to a fault. And the triggers need a new spring.

My next rimfire purchases will be from the Keystone 722 line. Their tacticool version is above the price range a little due to the chassis stock.

I'd go 22lr for my purposes, but yours might be different.

Rifle
Primary use practice/trainer.
Need.
- suppressor ready
- accurate
Want
- heavy barrel
- strongly prefer non plastic stock
- good trigger or after market trigger
<$400
I like 10/22s, but I think their non plane Jane 10/22 are way overpriced. (From Ruger) Savage 22 I've had good accurate experience, savage 17hmr rifle I've own or shot had magazine issues and very inaccurate
