Hello folks, yesterday was a beautiful day to be at the range here. I took out my old 22. WMR as it was handy and it was for a quick shoot.
  • The gun is a Ruger M77/22 Varmint Stainless Steel in target grey with brown laminated stock
  • The scope is a Leupold 3.5-10x50 EFR
  • Ammunition was Winchester Super X 40 grain JHP and Winchester Supreme 34 grain JHP
The weather was sunny with little wind and the temperature was 45 degree F. I shot 15 rounds in a half hour and, as the pictures below show, the  Supreme performed quite a bit better. Of course this round does not have the exposed lead tip of the Super X. I am not sure if that was the reason for the better accuracy. Or, maybe the  lower weight. Regardless, my remaining Super X is relegated to my S&W M48 for plinking and small game at roscoe ranges.
As for the gun, I have always liked the way it handles and looks. The trigger is acceptable but was not nearly as good as my friends Kimber Varmint 22-250. The Kimber was like glass. But the Ruger is fine for my purposes. There is a small amount of take up but it breaks cleanly.
The Leupold has been discontinued many years. Their scope line has changed so much with hundreds of models  coming and going. But this EFR is going nowhere for now. It is excellent for range work. This is my short range night time predator rig, too, and the reticle falls short if it is over cast with no snow. Otherwise it is usable on bright nights.

I cannot believe people (not in the communist state of California) still shoot unsuppressed.

But great round, nonetheless.

I have only thought about it. I would probably get a new gun just for the purpose.

A few of my guns are still unsuppressed simply due to keeping them un threaded as they came from the factory.

Looks like you had a great day.
I simply love these high crisp clear frosty days, this time of year, it doesn't make it any worse being at the range with good buddys , shooting and having fun.Thunbs Up
We have that kind of weather over here these days and i am going to fire some rounds at the 100 and 200 meter range tomorrow. Looking so much foreward to meet the gang and punch some holes. WinkWink
