BEAVERTON, Ore. — The Mark 5HD™ line of riflescopes from Leupold & Stevens, Inc., combines elite optical performance, rugged reliability and user-friendly features in a package that could only be assembled by leveraging the 70 years of manufacturing knowledge and innovation consumers have come to expect from America’s most dominant optics brand.

Featuring two models at launch, the Mark 5HD line has been crafted to redefine accuracy, precision and optical performance for long-range shooters, in a package that embodies rugged reliability. A 5-25x56 model is ideal for those seeking maximum usable magnification, while the 3.6-18x44 edition balances its compact build with big-time optical performance.

“Our Mark 5HD project team had one goal in mind: delivering riflescopes that had all the features long-range shooters have been calling for, but in a user-friendly package,” Tim Lesser, vice president of product development for Leupold & Stevens, Inc., said. “We asked elite shooters what they needed to put accurate fire downrange faster, then we used that input to design riflescopes that provide everything necessary—in both quality and features—without superfluous extras that add unnecessary weight and cost for the end user."

Reduced weight, indeed. Pick up a Mark 5HD and you'll feel the difference—it's up to 20 ounces lighter than other scopes in its class. The 5-25x56 weighs in at 30 ounces, while the 3.6-18x44 checks in at a scant 26 ounces.

Get behind a Mark 5HD, meanwhile, and you'll see the difference. Both models deliver superior edge-to-edge clarity and extreme low-light performance. The Twilight Max® HD Light Management System delivers the perfect balance of image color and contrast, light transmission, and glare management. Both models are available with or without illuminated reticles, feature 35mm maintubes for increased adjustment travel, and a high-speed power selector ring featuring an optional low-profile throw lever that provides additional leverage.

The heart of the Mark 5HD is the all-new M5C3 ZeroLock adjustments, which provide precise, repeatable tracking with a dead-on return to zero. The M5C3 elevation dials deliver 30-mils of adjustment in 3 turns, at 10-mils per turn, allowing the Mark 5HD to max out the performance of the latest long-range rifles and ammunition. Visual and tactile revolution indicators are in place to ensure you don’t get lost in the travel, and the auto-lock at zero eliminates the risk of inadvertently moving the dial. The windage adjustment is capped, and the zero indicator mark has been relocated on the riflescope’s maintube so you can see it without having to move your head off the stock of the rifle.

“The Mark 5HD has all of the features long-range shooters and hunters want and need, and none of the ones they don’t,” said Michael Wunnicke, director of marketing for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “This is a product that customers have been calling for, and we’re ecstatic to be able to deliver it.”

The Mark 5HD will initially be offered in a variety of etched glass reticles, including the Tactical Milling Reticle® (TMR®), H59, Tremor 3 and the new Combat Competition Hunter (CCH). The TMR and Tremor 3 will be available in both standard and illuminated versions. Lens covers and a lens shade are included.

The game-changing Mark 5HD is designed, machined and assembled in the USA and is covered by the Leupold’s Full Lifetime Guarantee.

SWFA's rep happened to stop in today and do a show and tell. Where I was privileged to check it out.

After reading about it online and see that Leupold brought something to the industry that will cannibalize the former Mark 4, a concern that I had was weight. If you have looked at tactical scopes lately you will see a common attribute is that they are heavy. I would not say they are something you would take hunting with you for any week long excursion in the woods. Surprisingly the Mark 5 is lightweight, all things considered, about twenty ounces less than the closest competitor.

The optics are everything I was expecting and I'm a huge fan of Leupold's TMR reticle, which happened to be in the scope I was holding.

The elevation turrets was an M5C2 if I recall correctly, which translates to .10 MRAD adjustments with a zero lock turret. This scope has 30 MRAD with 10 mils per revolution.

When on zero, the turret does not move. You will depress the protruding button on the elevation turret to dial the desired change in elevation and then engage your target.

The windage turret is a low profile capped turret. Also in MRAD adjustments.

The side focus corrects for parallax from 50 yards to infinity.

This scope features a 34mm tube with a pretty generous mounting area.

Moving back, the power selector ring is much wider than what you have seen from Leupold historically. Additionally Leupold incorporated a cattail in the power selector ring.

In my opinion that was a vital improvement to this scope.

Leupold's Mark 5 riflescopes feature first focal plane reticles.

Leupold & Stevens, Inc. has introduced the VX®-Freedom™ line,

a new series of riflescopes that will deliver relentless reliability and elite optical performance at a price point that’s impossible to disagree with – especially given that the line is designed, machined, and assembled in the United States.

Military-spec lens coatings provide abrasion resistance, protecting the riflescope in the most challenging terrain. An ergonomically advanced power selector ring is low-profile, but provides exceptional grip and ease of use, even in the cold, wet or when wearing gloves.

The VX-Freedom series delivers excellent performance in low-light situations and is exceptional at glare management, thanks to the proprietary Leupold® Twilight Light Management System. A combination of lens coatings and physical design elements in the riflescope itself, the Twilight Light Management System helps hunters make the most of low-light conditions found at dawn and dusk.

“Our new VX-Freedom line delivers the versatility and performance hunters and shooters have come to expect from the Leupold brand, all while remaining budget-friendly,” said Tim Lesser, vice president of product development for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “Whether you’re looking for your first scope or your fortieth, there will be a VX-Freedom that suits your needs – all sporting our legendary gold ring.”

The VX-Freedom will initially be available in some of the industry’s most popular magnification ranges, such as 1.5-4x20, 2-7x33, 3-9x40, 3-9x50, 4-12x40. All VX-Freedom models offer a second focal plane reticle and 1-inch maintube. The series will support muzzleloader, rimfire and centerfire options for consumers. Duplex®, Pig-Plex and the new Rimfire MOA, Tri-MOA and UltimateSlam reticles will be available. MSRP: $234.99-389.99.

The VX-Freedom series is everything consumers expect from a Leupold: designed machined, and assembled in the Oregon factory, tested to the same ruggedness standards as top-tier riflescopes, and guaranteed for a lifetime of performance.

Leupold last December made the decision to discontinue the Rifleman, VX-1, and VX-2 product lines to introduce this year the new VX-Freedom.

There are several similarities, but there is a difference in the turrets and with the power selector ring. The power selector is much wider and more rugged looking, but still moves very fluid like when going from one power to the next.

Oh, I nearly forgot...the diopter is still a fine focus, but they increased with width of this as well for better grip after focusing the reticle you can lock it down with ease.

The reticles features in the Freedom line up are all MOA.
