I wonder, does anyone have either some info or speculation about the future of the Swarovski Z3 line and by extension their Z5 line?
The reason I suspect that something is in the works is the aggresive price drops this spring. Now, the canadian market is of course different, our dollar is weaker, and imports probably add some cost, so keep that in mind with the following prices.

Z3 3-9×36 is now $799
Z3 3-10×42 is now $899
Z3 4-12×50 is $999

These are MAP prices and I believe Swarovski is quiye strict about their MAP, I can easily get these scopes cheaper by $100 with a bit of talking.

By way of Comparison Leupold also dropped the prices of their VX-3i line, yet the vx-3i 3.5-10×40 duplex retails for over $600.

Is it just me, or has the Swarovski Z3 tradintionally had a larger premium over Leupold than this? A VX-5 2-10×42 is more expensive than all of the Z3 line for example.
Now I realise that the Z3 is somewhat dated technology, (3x zoom, set and forget turrets, etc.) and I can't help but suspect that Swarovski has decided they've made their money on the line and are going to flood the market in a "loss leader" strategy to make a whole bunch of new Swaroholics of the masses.

To my view, the Z3 and VX-3i kind of fill the same niche, a very popular niche, lightweight, traditional, no frills hunting scope. I do hope thrmey continue to offer something similar, but suspect that the Z3 is not long for this world.

Obviously this is pure speculation on my part, basically a better than 20% cut to MAP pricing across the board though. No idea if there's been a similar adjustment stateside though?

Certainly in the UK the "German" makes have always been the priciest.

A lot of UK hunters tend to view the high end American glass like Leupold and Nightforce as good if you want to do clicky-clicky target work but not worth the premium over Japanese glass for hunting and our very heavy reliance on first and last light work.

Was sure I had a point when I started this post...
