I hate to say it, but you bought the wrong scope for what you want to do. Mirage in Texas in summer makes a fixed 20X all but useless. At 100 yards, sure; beyond, not so much. And no 20X has great eye relief. And no 20x whatever the objective is will be bright. For 400 and in, I'd say a 10X will be a better choice, but hindsight and all. And how is it mounted? If you are a hunter, you are probably accustomed to more traditional rifle stocks, and an AR ain't that. Did you use an AR mount or throw it in normal picatinny rings on the top rail? We can help, but I do not think your scope is going to do exactly what you want it to do - in a way you like. |

RC, thanks for the reply. I may have bought too much magnification, guess time will tell. I did find out my problem though with the cloudiness. I'm used to shooting an AR with my nose touching the charging handle, the way we were taught. I bought the SWFA cantilever mount for the scope and originally had it mounted towards the rear, at the charging handle. But my head was at the back of the stock. I moved it forward, then my head was in the middle of the stock, but still felt odd. I just went out back, we live in the country, have 300 yards of open pasture, and ended up moving the scope mount all the way forward on the rail. Now my head, and I'm 6'1", so fairly tall, is resting in a more 'normal' position that I'm used to shooting from. And the cloudy issue was me not having my eye looking directly down the tube. The front sun shade was causing the white cloud. Now I can hold my head more inline with the stock, barrel, and scope. And in regards to the 20X, I was pleased with it at the range, and I think (?) it will be okay in the long run. And again, I appreciate any and all advice, especially in regards to long distance shooting. Which to me is anything beyond 200 yards. |
