Just got the scope in a short while ago. A quick and dirty "run through", without mounting, has me in complete agreement with WT SLAYER's comments. Adjustments are audible and tactile and movements are as close as I can visually determine. I did a fast check of reticle graduations using a survey pole with centimeter graduations, just set scope on two tripods, and I see no visible error. Lightweight as WT said and glass is very good.
There is NO observable tunneling, but eye position is "critical" when addressing the scope. If you (I) don't hit just the right spot, there is a large "blurring" area. Once it is on the rifle, I'm hopeful that this will not be as observable. It is not a game killer, but for me is an irritant. I like the reticle (which is one of my prime motivators for getting this particular scope). The instruction manuals for the scope and the reticle are very nice... good information, instructive (as a manual should be) and very helpful. I'll mount it tonight.

I couldn't stand it, so I mounted the scope on one of my 6.5 Grendals. Here's the deal... I've used a Leatherwood 2.5-10x44 M-1000 and the Leatherwood 6-24x50 M-1200 (newest version with illumination) on this rifle and liked both, but wanted something in between... it is not just a long range rifle and exceeds the easy ranges for a max 10x. Then, I THOUGHT I had a set of rings for it, but obviously don't, so had to remove a Leatherwood 14CMR from a mount to set it up. OK.. It is on the Grendel and there IS a difference in the "fuzzy spot" with it on the rifle. Fuzzy spot still there unless head/eye position is "perfect", but it is much more manageable on the rifle than just on a tripod set up. Slight head adjustment necessary... for me... others may have different experiences. For now, I'm happy with it. The reticle, overall, is a little small at 4x... I've had and I do have better reticles in FFP at low power, but it is "livable", as is the "criticality" of head/eye position. When adjusting power, I have to change position slightly to stay out of the "fuzzy spot". Could just be me. I have a couple of targets that I use for ranging practice and it was DEAD ON. Without having fired a round with it on the rifle, I'm still liking almost everything about this scope. I like it better than the 2.5-10 PST I bought for my son-in-law, already. Could change after I shoot with it... not expected.

Much playing around with the stock adjustments, I zeroed from standing at 50m... 8 rounds, last 3 under an inch. It'll do until I get serious about it. Conditions... no wind, near dark. scope on 4 power. So far, there is a lot to like.

I finished zero last night... 15 minutes before dark. Zeroed at 225m... provides best performance for the ammo I'm shooting and my intended distances/usage.
The scope is, all around, satisfying. My one big complaint is... it needs illumination. In near dark conditions, the reticle is very difficult to see at low powers. Other than the lack of illumination, I have no complaints for this scope. Dialing for distance or using the reticle for holdover...pretty slick. It is a true value. "Features vs cost" is above average. I've never been a big fan of Vortex, but this scope is very good and I'm glad I got it. Their warranty is as good as any scope maker's. I've only had it a few days, so cannot really speak to durability, but everything I see indicates quality. Put a light in it and it will be truly outstanding.

Optically it compares well to the PST. I too noticed that at the higher Mag ranges it was a bit picky about address. I also, if memory serves me correctly got my hands on a newer model at the gun show here in December, It had illuminated reticle. My girl friend and I were there shopping for her Christmas gift, and I looked at several scopes so, I may be a tad fuzzy about any one scope in particular. This one for the price point did impress me a fair bit.

Diamondback Tactical does not have an illuminated reticle, at least according to Vortex. I don't know why. Perhaps it would increase the price too much. Still a lot of scope for the price. The more I shoot with it, the better I like it. Still wish it was illuminated. |
