I must have a deformed head so I need some help buying Bino's from Web. I have a pair of Nikon Action binos 3x15 maybe(they are older and unused) the issue is when I bring them together they are too wide to be able to use both eyes at the same time. I have a 60mm pupil distance and am having a problem finding that information on some of the websites for that distance. I am not also clear that when I do see a number if its what I'm looking to find out.
My concern is I know very little bino's so im not sure if the Nikons I have are the norm or exception for distance between the eyes. Is there an easy way to tell how narrow bino's will get when pulled together? Im looking for an 8 or 10 X 42 set for whitetail with a gun. I went to some local shops and it seems like I will probably have to order something(most likely off samplelist) but I dont know how to figure out if they will work or I will have to just use 1 eye again.

Hi Gary: I have been in the business for several decades and have never heard of a 3x15. The first Nikon binocular, which made a comeback several years ago, came in two flavors: 6x15 and 7x15. Also, having the oculars pushed all the way together should have an IPD that would accommodate a 4-year old. The binocular is tiny but will accommodate the average 6’2” man. Finally, there should be an IPD scale between the EPs on the axle. If nothing else, have your IPD measured by your optometrist and set the scale on the binocular to that. Thus, your problem should be solved. If not, just give me or others a shout. Cheers, Bill PS When I type this response, or review it, it is formatted correctly. When I post it, it is not. You will have to speak to admin about that. |

So I dug the bino's out and they are 10x22x50. I guess my point wasn't about the power they were but they are too wide when closed to be able to see out of both eyes. As I stated my PD is 60 per my eyeglasses.
I'm just having a hard time finding the PD distance for what I have been looking at on samplelist and other sites. The nikons list 56-72(I'm assuming this is good info for my older set) on the site but there is no way they are 56 so I guess I was wondering I was worried I wasn't looking at the correct info. |

If the Nikons have an IPD of 56-72, then you are all set at 60mm. I think you mean 10-22x50 instead of 10x22x50, which doesn't exist. Just put them to your eyes, spread the instrument to accommodate your eyes, and you're ready to observe. Have fun, Bill PS And for more information than you requested, "friends don't let friends use zoom binoculars."
