I know these binoculars are no longer produced, but for anyone that has had one, what is your opinion of the binocular? I am considering getting a pair of 7x42's in the future.

There are more than one Zeiss 7x42. A photo would be nice. Since you are speaking
of older binoculars, there’s a good chance you are speaking of the 7x42 Dialyt,
a Hensoldt design. A bit of Light leaked around the prisms. However, it didn’t
reach the retina. Also, for the billions of words expended on the subject,
probably 95% deal with differences way too small for the human brain to
distinguish. ‘Talk about forever? Yes. ‘Misunderstand the cause of the
perception? Yes. But, actually appreciate the differences in binoculars of the
same aperture, magnification, AR coatings and quality level? NO!
Too many people see “newer” as “better.” That is true in a few instances but not across the board. Cheers, Bill |

It is in the title, Bill.
He is talking about Zeiss FL 7x42. It was an absolutely spectacular binocular back when it was introduced a few years ago and I suspect it still is if it wasn't abused. At the time, I thought it was in the top three of 7x42 binoculars on the market along with the Ultravid and SLCneu. It has been a few years since I have seen one. I think they introduced then around 2004-2005 and kept them in production for at least 7-8 years. Between FL, SLCneu and Ultravid 7x42, it really came down to personal preference. ILya

ILya, that was the similar comparisons (SL porro, Leica) that I used when I bought my 7x42 BG/T binoculars years ago. I thought the Zeiss was stellar.

Have the older SLC in 7x42, they're really nice, large sweet spot, vibrant colors, very sharp, only dislike is the focus wheel...they improved it with the SLCneu. . 7x is a very good choice.

Well, if I ever find a decent used pair, I will snap them up.
