New member here and I'm kinda stuck. Recently bought a very lightly used Remington 700 in .300 RUM and I'm down to a Leupold VX-3i CDS or a Vortex Viper PST EBR-1 MRAD The magnification magnification is pretty much the same on both (4.5-14 to 4-16) but the Leupold is a 1" tube and the Vortex is 30mm and I can get either for the exact same price. The Vortex looks to be a better scope for the money and I like the reticle on it better so why the conflict? The rifle came with a very nice set of engraved 1" rings that match the rest of the engraving on the rifle and I'd really like to use them but it's almost impossible to find a 1" scope that will provide the optics the gun deserves and take the abuse of the recoil and the Leupold is the closest I can find; for 30mm the choices (and prices) are endless. Is the Vortex that much better of a scope for the money that I should just go get a set of 30mm rings or will the Leupold work just as well. Yeah, the magnification isn't close to what the gun will do but I'm also not looking to out 1000 yards, either. Thanks, Pyro

To put a finer point on the question, what's your all's opinion on the Viper PST 4-16x50 EBR-1 MRAD? It looks to a first gen PST as it doesn't look anything like the Gen II. I know the reputation of both companies but don't know how it matches up with an equivalently priced Leupold. Thanks, Pyro
