Looking for a budget set for whitetail hunting with rifle in Ohio(prob 200 yards max shot). I have read as much as I could on the web but cannot seem to find anything to help me make a decision. I have tried Leupolds and Vortex in the price range in the stores along with a more expensive Leica set but honestly I cannot tell any difference in them just glassing across a store.
I found the Leupold Tioga HD for $219 after sale coupon at Dicks but they are made in china glass. They have a set of Crossfires for $119 on the Sample list. If you had my budget what would you recommend, I need something before Thanksgiving.

I wouldn't. That budget range pretty much rules out lowlight use. If the deer are that close, you lose as much advantage with movement and flash as you gain with binos.
I do get a lot of use out of a pair of Leupold Yosemite 6x30. I use them for squirrel finding in woods in good light.

I have a couple sets of 8x32 sightron blue sky binos. They are $200ish. They are excellent, and decent in low light. You can definitley find decent binos in that range.
Veiwing binos in a store isnt the best way to look or compair them. Artificial light doesn’t show you how they really work. Expensive binos are definitley better, but its up to the user to decide how much they want to spend I have a pair of meopt meostar hd 8x32 and they are optically superior in every way to the sighton. Especially in low light and when looking into shadows with contrasting bright daylight. But the sightrons are still great binos and i use them a lot. I like the eye cups much better on the sightons. |
