Hi all, first post here.

I have been using a pair of Cabela’s Euro 10X42 (pre HD) for several seasons now here in Colorado. They have been very good glass, but I think a good set of 8X42 or 8.5X42 might work better for my hunting in mixed open and brushy areas.

I’m considering going with swaros, either the SLC or the ELs. Looking at used ones, it seems like 8-10 year old ELs can be had for around $1,500.

My two concerns are warranty since I wouldn’t be the original owner, and if an older pair without all the updates would be as good or close as the current models.

I only paid $500 for the Euros, so I don’t believe I’ll take any loss when selling them to fund a pair of swaros.

Any advice is appreciated.

You will never go wrong with Swarovski binoculars, any of them. As long as they are in good condition with no damage to lens coatings, they will be among the best binoculars you could possibly own in terms of optical performance. The differences between the older EL and more recent Swaro binos optically are subtle. If you find a good deal on a used bino in good gondition, buy with confidence.

I agree with 8X/8.5X being the best “all-around” magnification. 10X is good too, but I slightly prefer 8X because it provides more FOV and deeper depth of field (so you refocus less from relatively near to relatively far), and it’s a little easier to steady the view without noticing hand tremors.

As for warranty concerns, no need to worry there. Swarovski has one of, if not the best, most generous customer service policies in the optics business. If it breaks, they typically fix it at no charge to you. It doesn’t matter if you’re the original owner or not.

Awesome, thank you for the response. The warranty on paper doesn’t seem that great, it’s good to hear they surpass what’s written.
