Yes, Mike, it is a VariX-III. It seems it may have been one of those models that Leupold "got it right with" back then. It is noticeably better than the other VariX-III's I have around.

That has been largely obviated by a bunch of different 3-15x and similar scopes with adjustable parallax.

Athlon Ares and Midas 2.5-15x50 are good examples.  There are others.
