I have a Browning 4X scope with a serial number of D42846. I think it vintage but unsure. I am trying to get some information on it. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

I recall Browning scopes that were re-labeled Bushnell Elite 3200 with better coatings from Elite 4200. However, I do not remember a 4x in that line.

Yes Redfield made scopes for Browning in the sixties and early seventies. They had an interesting Browning 5 X!!

Burris made some Browning scopes too, in the late 70's and early 80's I'm thinking.

I did try Browning customer service. They said it was made by Bushnell and gave me a number for Busnell. Bushnell denied making it so that is why I am here.

I think ILya is correct because the Browning variables look like Bushnells.
The folks at rimfire central all say the 4X was made by Redfield. The ones they are talking about are 3/4 inch.

Oh for God's sake! Redfield made their little rimfire scopes and also their one inch scopes for Browning long ago.....thirty years before the Bushnell thing! The Bushnell thing happened 'yesterday'.... in the Nineties! They even made them in WIDEFIELD... Redfield made scopes for Browning starting in 1965....Browning scopes were last cataloged in Gun Digest in 1976.... ....then Bushnell made a few UNMARKED scopes for them 20 years ago.... |

Thank-you for your help.
Mine is a little different. Has the 4X, then under that the serial number and under that the Browning name. Attached to it is a grooved receiver scope mount. Wish I could share a pic but apparently my browser it giving the site grief.
