I have two SWFA scopes. One has a metal washer (I think brass... about 8mm) at the top of the the inside turret cap which the indexing shaft rises on. The turret caps are identical, but the other turret cap does not have that washer. What's up with that? Did it fall out when I removed the turret cap or did SWFA change their manufacturing process? SWFA customer service says they checked and the turrets they did  check did not have the washer.

Did you buy it used?  Some people I think put washers in them to act as a makeshift zero stop.

Sorry for my lack of internet knowledge, but here is a close-up of the two turret caps... showing one with the washer and one without.

Thank you for the reply. No... bought it new and it was not a zero stop situation. I was able to take the washer out of my other turret cap and surprise... it was not a metal washer but a very fine plastic one that goes between the top of the brass turret stem and the inside top of the turret cap which, I believe, is made of aluminum. This fine plastic washer is exactly the same diameter of a #6 brass washer which I picked up at Ace Hardware for $0.19. Yes... it is a little thicker than the plastic washer, but it will now be the top of the brass turret stem in contact with a brass washer... instead of brass on aluminum, which I think could eventually wear out that top of the brass turret stem. I put a little gun grease on it to hold it in place.

SWFA customer service persons were very nice, but I was surprised they did not know what I was talking about. The gentleman even checked on a couple of turrets to see if they had any kind of washer in the turret cap as I described it and he said there were none. If that fine plastic washer came out on my scope, I'm sure it has come out on others. Anyway... mystery solved. Good luck, everyone. Bobby F
