I purchased an SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Illuminated last year when they were on sale for $1150.00. I've been no end impressed with the build quality and the accurate, repeatable tracking and the Zero Retention and RTZ. I really, really like this scope.
I'm considering getting a SS 3-15x42. I'm also considering wasting for Black Friday to see if Chris drops the price of the 5-20x50 SS like he did last year. Any thoughts on the 3-15x42 compared to the 5-20x50 HD?

Vastly different scopes, just be aware. The 3-15 is based on an older design, it is the older turrets which I do not like as much as those on the 3-9 and 5-20.
It is durable, repeatable, and a great value, but not quite the equal of the 5-20, as the price would indicate. Both are quite good for the money.

As long as I can remember, they have done the Black Friday sale.
If you really like the 5-20, I'd get another. The 3-15 is a good scope, but there is a price difference for a reason. If you can do without the illumination and quite as much power, the 3-9 is among my favorites in that power range. |

I have both 3-9x42, and 3-15x42 SS scopes. I like the 3-15, but I think the 3-9 is a better scope. I have 2 friends I shoot with. Shooting 223s one uses a Nikon the other a Leupold in same price and power range as my 3-9 SS. When conditions start to suck like fog, or looking towards the sun, they have to stop shooting because they can't see the target, but I can still see when they can't.

Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

I also highly recommend the 3-9 it is an awesome scope. The 3-15 model I have is a model no longer made that is 2nd focal plane good for what it is but no where near what my 5-20 is where the 3-9 is a very good match to the 5=20 single screw reset turret caps which I really prefer.
