TFB has 2 articles about the Glock 44.
Yes a threaded barrel is coming.
Glock is making it as a stand alone pistol, and will not offer it as a conversion kit.
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

about the same size as the Glock 19 & 23 this should be a nice training tool.

I'm not a fan of pistols this light (14.64 oz. with magazine per Glock's website).

Expert shots can learn from shoooting almost any gun.  A pistol this light will quickly show up faults in your hold and/or trigger pull.  However, a .22 will not help you identify flinches or other bad habits related to noise and recoil.

For beginners or intermediate shooters, a pistol this light and twitchy can lead to serous frustration.  There's a reason target pistols are heavy.  Additional weight would improve practical accuracy, and is of lesser concern in a pistol in not intended for concealed carry.

I actually meant if the companies that make aftermarket conversion kits for G17s and G19s will take a hit but I hadn't even considered Glock making their own conversion kits... but an interesting one for the future maybe.

This is an interesting development.

I already have a Glock conversion kit, so I am not sure I will be picking on up, but I might if it is substantially more reliable than the conversion kit.

I like cheap practice.  I do agree that an ultra light weight gun is not ideal for teaching beginners, but it is great for practicing otherwise.

I have the same conversion kit that Koshkin has, and I've had good luck with it for the most part. Having more than one Glock frame to try it on, I've found that it works with some frames better than others.
One of our officers was a real problem child when it came to qualifying with his duty weapon (firefighter to police/fire). I worked and worked with him and slowly brought him up to standards. I recommended that he get one of these conversion kits, which he did, and he practices with it on his own. He now qualifies with no issues for the most part.
Yesterday I asked him about the reliability of his conversion kit. He told me it works better on one frame better than another. He also works as a part time Deputy in his home county, and they issue their own weapons too.

I probably won't pick up a G44 either since I hate Glocks, but if I did like Glocks, I'd have a G 44 for sure.
