i know this is in the wrong section, but since there isn’t a “Crossbow Scopes” section, I put it here because this section gets the most traffic.

With that out of the way, what are your recommendations, new or used, for $250 or less?

I would put a Sig Romeo 5 on it sight it for 30 yds know where it hits at 25 and 35 and use a range finder or 35 yds of chord and put out markers either using different colors of flagging tape or something that you can see and mark several directions from your stand you you can quickly guage distance. try peanutbutter just enough for scent in the area you want them to stop.  This sight comes with both the high and low mount in the box. use locktight on the screws.

thanks for the recommendation. I managed to snag a Hawke XB30 Pro for a really decent price. I really wanted the multiple aiming points.

I use a Nikon Bolt Xr scope on my CB with the x-hairs set for 25 yards.  I use them for all shots out to 30 yards and the 1st circle for shots over 30 yards out to 40 and 2nd circle for shots at 40 yards.

I have not shot a crossbow since the 70s, when I used collapsible, Match and general hunting types.

Overall I found using a scope on a crossbow to be largely a waste of time. To many variables to make it a reliable sighting mechanism , given your using an low inertia projectile. Its not like using a firearm to get good MoA.

You are much better off paying attention to the quarral, no warping, good solid fletching.

Also the reliable 'Kill' distance is quite short unless you are using a monster 'siege' type as per the good old days, when knights were bold and maidens didn't run too fast. That makes the scope a bit superfluous.

With all due respect, crossbows of today are vastly different than those of the 70's. Scopes are the norm. Most have multiple aiming points or a single point unit mounted on an elevation device such as the Ravin jackplate. Unfortunately, IMO, most crossbow scopes are made in China stuff and not of superior quality. However, they are getting better, and now there are range finding scopes appearing. Hawke products are among the most utilized.

Well that's fair enough, One would hope that this had improved somewhat. But it's only materials; the functionality remains the same, with the same limitations.

But the ones I used were hand made to order by a professional in the UK, so they were top of the line. Of course the cheapo Barnetts' started to appear then as well.

All modern production crossbows suitable for hunting that I’m aware of, are set up for scopes. In fact, the vast majority come with scopes from the factory. Mine did, but I wanted to upgrade.
