Hello and thanks for letting me in. I just recently purchased a Savage 16 stainless in .308 topped with Bushnell Elite 4500 2.5x10x40 with the DOA 600 reticle. In the manual it doesn’t state the DOA will work with 308 loads. First place I thought of was the knowledge here on this forum. Any one have any suggestions or info for me.
Thanks

Ballistic Calculator  or look at the ballistic info from the manufacturer
Consistency of ammo is really important. Same weight same velocity same maker.
Google has images some have info.
https://www.google.com/search?q=Bushnell+DOA+600+Reticle&tbm=isch&source=univ&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjajIaSleHmAhUQK80KHTGfDbgQsAR6BAgJEAE&biw=1680&bih=914#imgrc=WaB8ie0tPOL15M:

With a 2nd focal plane scope the balistic reticle is designed to work at the maximum power of the scope.  10x in this case.

As you know any time you change weight or velocity of a bullet it will strike in a different place higher or lower.   The best way to figure out the reticle is take a very large piece of paper or cardboard go to a range where you can shoot several hundred yards.  Once you zero at either 100 yds or 200 yds you shoot that zero on the paper then drop back in 100 yd incriments and shoot a three shot group aimed at the X allowing the impact to be below. Shoot at say 300,  400,  500  go up to the target with a can of spray paint mark where those 3 shot groups hit the target and go back and look through the scope to see how the marks of the reticle align with those paint marks on the target.   This can be done using any distance as your Zero and using any ammo in any caliber.  If you had the information on what the marks of the reticle represent you can do the math but its still good to verify it on the range.
Keep in mind that with a 2nd focal plane scope  when you dial the power down from 10x to say 6x those points below center represent entirely different impact strikes at distances farther than the ZERO. Guys dial down hold for what would have been the 300 yd mark below center then shoot over the back of the deer not realizing that at they dialed down field of view side to side got wider and the marks no longer represent the same thing.   The ZERO is always the same at any power.  You can however make yourself a chart at 10x a chart at 5x or 6x and a chart at 2.5x   If you are in low light you may dial the power down to brighten the image so knowing what those marks below center represent at 2.5x or at 6x could be very useful in low light.
Most of these ballistic reticles get guys failrly close they figure a 100 yd zero and each mark below is another hundred yards and they guess that most hunters will be using standard rather than magnum velocity calibers so .308 should fall right into the group nicely.

I tend to prefer to zero at 200 yds knowing where it will hit from 100 to 300 and I try to put game about 150 to 200 yds in front of me. If most of your shots will be at 100 or less you might want to use 100 as the ZERO.

No problem lots of people have a hard time with balistic reticles I've hunted with guys that just couldn't believe they missed a deer at 200 yds when they had their balistic reticle for hold over and had dialed the scope down to 3x - they just shot over the top of its back because as you dial down and field of view gets wider any marks in the scope represent more distance also.
