Opticstalk has been a great source of information especially on optics so I wanted to share my experience with the fixed SS scopes in the hopes that it may be useful to others.  I want to say the fixed SS 6x42 is a great optic for a rimfire sage rat rifle.  For context, sage rats are the nickname for belding ground squirrels (and some other species) out here in the west and they can multiply to plague proportions in the alfalfa pivots and grazing fields.  Shots range from 10yds to way out there but you can keep all shots inside 100yds, although it is fun to try out past 100.  The ballistics of a 22lr make range estimation and wind calls critical out at 100yds especially since the squirrels are quite small and only about 2-3in wide.  I dial for elevation and hold off for wind and with up to 500 shots a day it was important to have reliable turrets and tracking.  This is where the SS 6x is great.

SS 6x42 advantages:
- Reliable, accurate tracking & holds zero
- MRAD mil-quad reticle (essential for hold offs)
- Adj parallax down to 10yds
- Decent glass
- 6x power is a good balance of FOV and magnification for the ranges and target size
- Great value especially with Black Friday deals

SS 6x42 disadvantages:
- uh...  maybe a little bigger and heavier than other rimfire scopes, but those scopes don't usually have all the above features and keeping the same dimensions as all the fixed SS scopes likely allows lower costs.  Besides, I don't mind the extra 4-5oz.
- a mrad tree reticle would be nice

I have also used the SS 10x42 which worked well, but like the increased FOV of the 6x. I may also try the SS HD 3-9x42 as I hear that is an exceedingly good optic, although it has fixed parallax and is more expensive than the fixed SS.  The 6x42 does everything I need and does it well.  The HD 3-9x42 and 3-15x42 would really just be excuses to try more scopes and come on, who doesn't want that.  Hope that helps someone thinking about a rimfire optic.

SS 6X42 is a rock solid, great scope at a price point that’s hard to ignore. I’m glad you’re enjoying yours, and thanks for posting your review!
