If you could only own one rifle, one pistol, and one shotgun, what would they be and why?  For me the answer would be a Winchester Model 70 Classic in .30-06, a suitably customized 1911A1 in .45acp, and a Benelli Super Black Eagle in 12 GA.  The Winchester's controlled round feeding and the versatility of the .30-06 makes this a potent combination on 95% of the world's big game species.  The 1911 is argueably the greatest pistol design ever conceived and the .45acp has proven itself a formidable manstopper for the better part of a century.  The 12 GA. benelli is suitable for anything with feathers and is the best at functioning with a wide range of loads.  Well there is my list, I am curious to see what others would pick.

HKMP5KPDW for my pistol (w/ the operational brief case of course). HK.com

Blaser R93 Attache (w/ all 14 barrels of course). .22-250 Rem, .243 Win., 6.5x55mm, .25-06 Rem., .270 Win., 7x75mm, 7mm/08, .308 Win., .30-06 Sprg., .257 Wby. Mag., 7mm Rem Mag., .300 Win. Mag., .300 Wby. Mag., .338 Win. Mag. Blaser.com

Titanium Cosmi Shotgun- The only semi-automatic shotgun in the world that opens up like a side-by-side.  Cosmi.com

I picked the MP5 because....damn just look at it.  I really only own pistols for protection and fun.  The MP5 is tops in both categories.

I picked the Blaser for their simplicity and interchangeability (is that a word?)

The Cosmi is just down right awesome and they never get checked by game wardens when dove hunting.  Italian craftsmanship and ingenuity at its finest.

Maybe I've read too much Elmer Keith, but....

I have to almost exactly concur with ranburr.... tho the .45 would be a Kimber combat commander (they fit so nicely into the waist band at the small of the back), and the Benelli would be the M4 with the pistol grip option (not much of a bird hunter here). All that he mentions are great pieces of machinery... and more importantly.... you can buy the ammo just about any place in the world!

The Winchester pre '64 model 70 in 30-06 is documented to have taken every viable game species in the world, tho I doubt there'd be much of a quail left to eat afterward.

well shucks...

I suppose I could come up with something different.... but I'd just be "being different"... and why argue with sound reasoning??

Tho if I could add a 4th...

It'd be my Airarms S410E with a much better scope... (perhaps a customized US Optics holding a Horus Vision reticle), because its so powerful, quiet and accurate.... plus its a hoot to shoot!

    LOL!!

My rifle would be a Sako 75 Finnlight in .308 Win Caliber with a Zeiss V series 1.5X6X42 with Sako Optilok rings-low and base. This is the perfect setup for me hunting in South Alabama. My pistol favorite is the Glock 20 which is 10mm caliber. Shotgun pick is the Benelli Super Black Eagle in 12 gauge. I'll add my favorite Muzzle loader is the T/C Omega .50 caliber. This will drop a whitetail like a rock!

rifle would be remingotn 700 in 300 ultra mag for all around hunting, 44 mag for handgun (maybe a 500), and remington 870 for my shotgun.

For my input, and well, what I own, is a Browning A-bolt 2 Stainless Stalker in .270 with the Boss. I have seen this weapon knock down Moose, elk, black bear , whitetail and muley deer. I find it to be an accurate, effective all around rifle for anything here in Canada. Handgun, I own a Beretta 92FS. I find it very comfortable to shoot. The handgun laws up here in Canada suck, so it makes it a lot harder to really get much experience with handguns. And for shotgun, I currently own a Browning Citori 12 GA. I bought it second hand for use in Sporting Clays, and it has proven well, however, I am looking at upgrading, and my eye is currently on a Browning Cynergy 12 GA w/ composite stock and stainless barrels. (Nice to have matching guns eh?) That's my two bits worth.

Oh, and Chris, the HKMP5KPDW is a sweet looking weapon, but up here n Canada, it is an illegal weapon, and therefore couldn't even classify as a pistol. I know, sucks big time. I would love to get my hands on one...
