alright I will be honest, I have always carried my guns in a a 20.00$ flambeau case, and a doskocil, they both offer minimal protection and every impurity in the air finds it's way in there [I have to blow off the guns with an air compressor sometimes, because of a heavy coat of dust that accumulated on the guns inside a case that was exposed to a trip to a range thats in the boonies}
I wan't a medium to high quality hard case that preferably has an o-ring seal to keep the crap off of my guns. I am not going to spend 130.00-180.00$ on a case because at that rate I would just assume buy a pelican case, Really I wan't to keep it under 100.00$, like 80 bucks would be nice. any suggestions??? |

I don't believe there is a "medium to high quality" sealed hard case for under $100.00.

About the closet thing you will find for that price range would be the Doskil All Weather.

If you care about your guns and if you are in dust, there is no substitute for an O ringed case like a Pelican. Next best is a protective VIP sleeve, taped and inside a very good soft case.

I prefer SKB cases, tight as a drum. I only own two, one hold an O/U the other a scoped rifle. I would not hesitate to travel with them. However, I own several inexpensive cases, actually many, hard cases, of a variety of brands, that do a great job at sealing out dust and have taken them to my range, which can be dusty, without a problem. At Sportmansguide.com, I bought several inexpensive aluminum cases that are reasonably sealed, I would have to look at them, no where near the quality of a Pelican or SKB, but for the money, are well worth it. I even shipped a Savage 12 varminter to my son in the case, boxed, from NC to Denver, without a problem. Of course people do that all the time with the Dockocil. However, if I had to put every rifle I own in a SKB or Pelican, whoa, thats alot of cash. I know there is alot of debate on how to store your guns. Here, NC, if you leave your guns open to air with a light coat of oil, you will see rust appear within a week. Stored in a soft or hard case, with a light coat oil, I have never seen any rust on any gun I have ever owned .

I am talking for transportation purposes, my safe was sealed for flood protection, and I put corks in the muzzles of my rifles to stop dust from getting in there. the only other thing I can think of doing is having them mummified
It doesn't necessarily need a seal, but I want the sides to fit together really closely so that not much air will circulate through it. I would like some long lasting foam, and a solid formed case [I don't wan't the material to bend easily] |

You cannot go wrong with Pelican or SKB. Another manufacturer of what I am told is an excellent case is Strong Case. I was reading about taking a trip to Africa and one of the guide services recommended highly using them. Here is the direct link to the rifle and pistol cases: http://www.strongcasebytnb.com/Rilfe_Pistol.html They look solid and I am sure they are relatively expensive. I did not try to find a vendor, but if it means saving a rifle from damage while traveling, its worth it. The safari site that I was on, showed a rifle that had been broken at the pistol grip, in the traveling case, do not know what brand, by presumably, mishandled baggage. Of course, he may have had a hair line crack there to begin with, but they were just trying to illustrate a point. |

When I bought a .50 BMG, and I felt the need to REALLY protect it in transport, I went with a surplus Stinger Missile case.
It ran me about 240 bucks delivered, and it's tougher than anything I could buy that would fit my rifle for less than 750 bucks . |

I can't believe no-one has mentioned Starlight Cases. They have supplied the U.S. Military for quite a few years now. These hard cases are so tough, that they (Starlight) have a video of a tank running over one.(with weapon inside) I believe I payed $125 for mine about 3 years ago.
