Has anyone bought or handled a 93R17 and worked the safety? My son scooped snow this winter and saved up enough to get one.... we picked it up on Sat. It was pretty busy and I had both boys and the older one wants a pistol so we looked at those too....... anyway..... didn't check out the 17hmr very well. When we got home I worked the safety and it was extremely hard to take it "off"..... it was easy to move back to the "on" position. Worked with it some and it didn't get any better.
Took it back on Sun and they had one more.... forgot to mention, these are left handed...... the new one is better, but still not good. Went ahead and got it and we'll work with it some and if it doesn't get better, we'll send back to Savage.
We got another 17 out ..... a right hand package version........ and it was better than both the lefties.... but still had a "catch" in it. Edited by Tip69 |

I have the same rifle, right handed, bought it a couple of years ago and the saftey works perfectly fine and move very smooth. The thing is a tack driver at 100 yard with a cheapo scope. With no wind, I can hit a quarter all day long at 100 yards. Great rifle. I hope you get yours straightend out.

Another Righty with no problems at all.
Dont let your kid get suckered into any of the bullet drop compensating scopes though such as the Barska, BSA, and even the Cabelas Pine Ridge. I tried a Cabelas, and sent it back when it woudlnt return to zero after using the compensation turret ... Pissed me off big time.
Its now topped with a Simmons 4-12X40. And it is a REALLY accurate gun. Good choice. Mine shoots under 3/4" all the time at 100 yards, I dont have neough time behind it yet, but I have shot some half inchers at 100 yards.. |

does any of your gun's have the accu-trigger? I think the issue with the safeties are with the newer guns with the accu-trigger.

Yeah, accu-trigger. Met Ronald Coburn, Chairman & CEO of Savage Arms, at the 2005 Houston NRA National Convention and he showed us accu-trigger. Told us it would be comming with their rimfire rifles in early 06'. We were looking for a .22 to use in 4-H shooting competitions at the time. Good luck with that saftey. |
