Hi guys, i just joined the forum .i have read it for a long time and enjoyed a lot. i just bought Ruher 77 in 22 Hornet, used, with Bushnell Trophy 3x9x40. the little rifle is accurate enough and i love shooting hornet. i want to use it for varmint /mainly fox/ hunting, considering caliber, within 200 yards and practice/target shooting before deer season. I can hunt foxes during day and night, and want to upgrade scope (cost +/- $300).the rifle is rather small and want the tube that is no longer than 12'. Please advice on the following choices:
Weaver: Grand Slam 3x10 40 or V10.
Bushnell: Elite 4200 3x9 40 Elite 3200 3x9 40 firefly Elite 3200 3x10 40 (short action) Elite 3200 3x10 50 (short action)
Burris: Fullfield II 3x9 40 (electro dot)

You didn't mention if you reload-- a really good way to go is to rechamber for k_hornet which will correct for the usual headspace problem in hornets and give you outstanding accuracy, in which case you could go several grades better on the scope and have one shooting sob.

Thanks Dale. I do not reload (or rather not yet). Would like to hunt with the original Hornet this fall but I am hearing a lot of good things about k. In the future, if decide to go with k, can put this scope on one of my big game rifles, and make upgrade for k-hornet. I am really interested what is a difference in light transmission between Elite 4200 and Grand Slam, or if 50 mm lens would compensate for quality of glass in a low light situation (e.g. 50mm Elite 3200 vs. 40 mm Elite 4200).
