I'm thinking about a Tikka rifle but the rings seem scarce. Are Sako rings the same style?

I think they are, but I just ordered a Tikka and it has Leupold rings with it. You ought to be able to find the same ones.

This may be the compact rifle of my near future but the ring issue has me on hold. I'm thinking about a T3. I haven't seen Leupold rings offered for the Tikka and will have to guess as to height.

I just bought a T-3 in 7mm-08. I used the rings it came with. I don't think sako mounts are the same. you can screw on weaver mounts and put whatever rings you want on. also talley makes a one piece ring and mount that I might look into. Edited by tinman |

Tikka and Sako rings are different (different receiver groove). T3 comes with rings. Burris makes some grooved receiver rings and Warne makes rings for it as well. I've used Warne's and I am very happy with them.
Right now, I have weaver bases on it though with Burris Signarute Zee rings.

Sako rings/mounts are called Optilocs. The one of the biggest disappointments I have experienced in all my years of shooting. Yikes!!!! |

If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

As a general note to the curious, Berretta is now the distributor for Sako (long a) and stocking dealers must order about $10,000 worth of Sakos to get them. The old method had outlets on a select master list. Redfield makes tension slip ons if you can still find them, using regular dovetail and windage. If you want the old style Sako as something to ponder on the as to the wonders of machining, odd angles, and out of date pitch threads look on ebay. Tikka receiver, unless I miss my guess, are made the same way the old Nikko receivers were made to cut costs, stock bar with a hole drilled in it. It looks like a basic Weaver without crosscuts. Had a local friend whose horse didn't like the color and stepped on it. Stock replacements are NOT available. Should be good news for Choate.
