I also have a Sako AV but I don't want to use Optilocks.  I am using the rifle and a McMillan stock to build a 8mm Remington Magnum with a 27 inch #6 fluted Lilja barrel.  I want to put a Swarovski 6-18 TDS on the rifle.  My plan is to use it in Mongolia next Fall if things work out with my transfer back to the US.  My gunsmith should be done with it in late October, and I should be shooting it this Winter (I hope).

Rings for Sakos are damn limited, and I have seen some Talleys on other Sako rifles, but Talley is pretty mum about the hole thing.  Anyone know where I can get some 30MM or 1 inch Talleys for Sako bases?

Kokdyer, out of curiosity, do the Leupold Sako style rings fit your receiver? I mounted a pair on a buddies 7mm Mag Sako Finnbear a few years ago and so far they are working flawlessly. Also, what are you hunting that made you decide to go with the 8mm Mag. I had a custom job built by Robert Hart & Sons in 30-8mm Mag and it is one hellava shooter!!! Reloading is a breeze and the choice of 30 cal. bullets is endless. Just a thought. Good luck.

The Leupold Rings work, but I would prefer to use Badger Ordnance or Talley.  I bought 3 of the Sako FinnFibers from a place that is so big they were lost in the basement for 10 years.  I paid $600 a piece for each (1980's prices were almost $1400).  Two were 375 and one was a 30-06.  The Leupold Rings work great on the 30-06 and the 375 I mounted them on.  I just want more than one screw per side.  And the biggest reason is I want to use a 30mm scope on the rifle.

Coincidentally they came with really wierd Sako rings that were huge and super adjustable but ugly as heck.  They were all too low for any of the rifles to be mounting a modern scope on.

I built a 8mm Remington Magnum because I dont' have one and I am facinated with the cartridge.  I have a Remington M700 Custom KS Mt Rifle in 338, a Cogswell and Harrison pre-war 375 H&H, three 30-06s, four 300's, a 9.3x64, a 9.3x62, 405 WCF, 45-70, 416 Remington, and about 8 guns under .308.  Some are complete guns, some are Blaser barrels, all are fun.  I keep reading about Boddington's 8mm Mag and decided it would be a neat one to try.  Using a 27 inch fluted Lilja barrel and McMillan Sako classic stock. Plan on using it in the Kalahari and Mongolia.

Love rifles, love hunting, Russian women are also great!

The Boddington rifle you speak of is a custom rifle built by Rouge River that uses a left handed 700 action, 28" Pac-nor barrel and stocked with a fine piece of walnut. Craig has spoken very  highly of the caliber/rifle combo.

That Rogue River 8mm has been some places hasn't it.  I talked to Geoff Miller about building one for me and he doesn't do them anymore.  Rigby is only making Rigbys!

I had the Sako in a 375 sitting here, and decided it was the perfect platform.  Going to Namibia in June but probably going to take my 338 instead.  The 8mm isn't going to be ready.
