That may be true but all the people i hunt with only shoot once a year, a week before deer season to make sure their guns are sighted in!  I on the other hand enjoy shooting and go atleast 2 or 3 times a months but i feel like i am the exception... maybe, maybe not.

i cannot agree with you more i know tons of people like that and some of them dont even check their rifles before the season opens if they miss the first deer they shoot at then they get a pop can and adjust till they hit it

but i am like you i make it a point to shoot a couple times a month its fun and i feel its helps me shoot better on both ends hunting and at the range.

Shooting is fun and I do it often. I hunt less, but enjoy it far more.

"the people i hunt with only shoot once a year"

Sad but true for most of the guys in our camp as well.  Some just can't get more time I guess, too bad because they're missing out on a lot of fun that would also help during duck/moose/deer season

+1

I try to get out to the range 3-4 times a month.  I'll shoot my hunting rifles on 4-5 occasions at 50yds-300yds between hunting season(s). "just to make sure" everything is where it's supposed to be and to keep my confidence in my abilities with each weapon.  The rest of the trips to the range are spent shooting a FN-SPR in .308, Stevens 200 "custom" build in 6.5x284 and a CZ-452 in .22LR.  I'm really trying to improve my overall marksmanship & shooting mechanics.

I love to shoot but, more than anything else, I HATE making poor shots on game!!!!  I owe it to the deer & hogs I hunt to make a clean shot.  Practice is the only way to dramatically decrease the odds of me screwing up.

Plus, it's fun!

For me , it is a target.....No matter what it is made of it deserves my best shot....Like Ceylonc says, when Im waiting for the hunt I am constantly trying to improve the shot...Shoot standing, prone or off the knee, just look at the "X" ring like its the best buck you ever saw...I dont like them shootin sticks, they always "stick" me somewhere not to mention where...

Alas,

I'm usually a lot more worried about fishin in the off season to hang out at tha range.I do take the wife and daughter to shoot the shotguns at clays frequently.I believe this requires much more practice than rifle hunting though. After hunting my whole life the rifle shooting is like the old bike riding story that once learned you never forget.Of course we check our zero every year before going afield. One should definitly be completely familiar with one's weapon.During the season I will recheck zero several times especially if carrying the weapon on a 3 or 4 wheeler or even after being in a vehicle riding over rough terrain. As far as practice is concerned I spend much more time practicing with the bow and shotgun. If there were more time in a year maybe I'd shoot the rifle a little more.LOL
