I'M NEW TO THIS FORUM AND PERHAPS THIS TOPIC HAS ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED, BUT I'M HAVING TERRIBLE DIFFICULTY LOCATING REDFIELD RIFLE SCOPES. I'VE DONE SEARCH AFTER SEARCH AND ALL I CAN FIGURE OUT SO FAR IS THAT SOME COMPANY CALLED "MEADE" HAS BOUGHT OUT SIMMONS, WEAVER, AND REDFIELD AND WILL START 'RE-PRODUCING' THESE THREE BRANDS OF SCOPES. IS THERE ANY TRUTH TO THIS? IF SO, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHEN THE NEW REDFIELD SCOPES WILL BE AVAILABLEAND IF THEY WILL BE OF THE SAME HIGH QUALITY? i ALSO READ SOMEWHERE THAT THE NEW VERSIONS WILL BE EVEN BETTER THAN THE OLD! I'VE BEEN A DIE-HARD REDFIELD FAN OF THE LOW-PROFILE WIDEFIELD SCOPES FOR YEARS. I LOVE THOSE SCOPES!!! I JUST PURCHASED A NEW MARLIN LEVER ACTION IN THE SOMEWHAT NEW .450 MARLIN CALIBER, AND I'M LOOKING TO GET A REDFIELD LOW-PRO WIDEFIELD 2X7 TO PUT ON IT.....AN AWESOME BRUSH GUN COMBO I THINK! ANYONE WHO CAN HELP ME OUT, I'D GREATLY APPRECIATE IT. THANKS. Edited by JTT73 |

This is about as close as you are going to get for a reasonable price. There are of course some more expensive options. The widefield is history welcome to the brighter future. |

Hmmmm, I haven't checked into those scopes. If i can't get the Redfield I want, I'll likely stick to the better brands in the mid-price to lower priced high-end scopes. I've been seriously looking into the BURRIS Signature series 2x7x40mm. It's around $430, but that's about as high priced as I want to go. BURRIS also has a few other 2x7's but with a smaller lens.....32mm or 35mm I think. I prefer the light gathering of the 40mm and I can't seem to find too many others in the 2x7 range that have 40mm lenses. I must say though, the SIGHTRON you listed in 1.5x6x42mm sounds wonderful, but I'm not familiar with that brand at all and I tend to shy away from stuff with which I have no experience with, especially since I can't really afford to make a bad purchase just because something sounds good. I hope you're wrong about the REDFIELD's. I've heard so many things from different people. Some say they will be introducing the Widefield series again, some say not. Some say they will be releasing particular models at certain times throughout the rest of the year. I have no idea. I just go with what I hear, but nothing I've heard so far is factual, at least that I know of. But thank you for your reply and the other choices. |

Yes, it's true Meade now owns the Redfield name, but I hate to break it to you, Meade doesn't have the best reputation for maintaining quality or good service, at least where sport optics is concerned. I haven't seen the newer Redfields, but I'm hearing they are made in China like Simmons. They certainly aren't made in the U.S. anymore; those days are long gone. The new Redfields may very well be better optically than the old; I don't know, but optics in general have improved overall from 20 years ago. |

I would say that the Sightron 1.5x6x42 or Nikon 6x42 fixed power would be a huge step up from the Redfield. I have personally owned Redfield scopes and my own Marlin 444 sports a Nikon Monarch 6x42, it's a awesome scope, and can be had for 199.00 right now.

Stubewan I hate to break it to you but the Nikon Monarch 6X42 is also HISTORY. There may be a few of them left but if you want another better grab it quick. I agree that the 6x42 is an ideal scope for many things. As for Sightron I have looked at them with a very critical eye and Koshkin is right they are superb for what they cost. Nikon Monarch Gold also offers a 1.5-6x42
But why stop there,
On the other hand the Sightron SII 1.5-6x42 has fairly good glass and will most likely kill anything that its more expensive friends will. Here is my pick of the litter for fixed 6x42:

lmao @ "WHY STOP THERE"!! haha........I can relate to the sarcasm, lol. Yeah, the NIKON is a bit pricey for me, and the SWAROVSKI....well, I don't even look at those because I know what they cost! I have a friend who swears by NIKON and he won't even look at anything else, and that's fine, but I'm NOT HIM. Even though I'm a huge fan of the REDFIELD low-pro's, I'm not against trying something else, I just don't have a lot of experience with other brands. What works for one person may not work for another, and even with that said, I do take other people's experiences and feedback seriously. It's always a great help and I thank everyone for it. Right now, I'm pretty much set on a BURRIS, but that's just from my own research thus far by doing side-by-side comparisons of different brands utilizing the same variables and staying within my price range. Heck, I might get a BURRIS and hate it, but you never know. But just from my own research and what I've read others' say so far, I'm thinking it may be my best bet. I have read some negative stuff about BURRIS as well, but I take that stuff with a grain of salt. It's possible to have a bad experience with ANY brand. I do NOT however, want a fixed power scope, but thanks for the info. I had rather have the flexibility of a variable power scope. I hunt fairly thick stuff and a 7x is more than plenty, but sometimes my surroundings call for something much smaller and that would be waaaay too much magnification and I would need a 1.5 or 2x, so a variable for me is a must. But anyways, I still have plenty of time for more suggestions and research before hunting season arrives. Thanks again for the replies and info. |

Nothing wrong with Burris. Overall, they're very good, solid scopes with optics on par with most others in their respective price ranges.

Now if both of them would just improve their customer service all would be happy.
