I am looking at a Blaser Luxus that comes with a Zeiss Diavari V 5-15x42 T*. I cannot seem to find much information on this scope even on the Zeiss web site. A web search yields several listings in foreign languages( Russian, Italian, etc.) and when I engage the search engine translator I do get some info. It appears this scope/magnification power might have initially been designed for competition and or sniper type rifles?
Any experience, insight, and or opinion as to the worthiness of this scope would be appreciated.

Wamshane -
The Zeiss Diavari is probably the No. 1 or No. 2 scope line on the market today. The other is the Swarovski Z6. Both are phenomenal optically. I think the decision factor would be whether you want a FFP recticle (changes size as you change mangification so the same proportion of the target is covered at all times) or a SFP recticle (recticle stays the same size so the proportion of the target covered is different at different mangifications). The Zeiss is a FFP, the Swarovski is an SFP.
Good luck. You absolutely cannot go wrong with either.

This scope is a German made scope with a one inch tube and a second plane reticle. The thickness of the reticle does not change as power is changed. This scope was discontinued about 2 to 3 years ago, and retailed for 1200 to 1300 dollars. It is not a bulky sniper scope-it is about the size of the 3-9x40 Conquest. The eye relief is about 3.7 inches. The more common variant was the 3-9x42, which may arguably be the best one inch scope ever made.

Thank you to all for the replies to date. ... they have been extremely helpful especially the "pedi" reply providing the information that the scope is now discontinued which probably explains why I cannot find on the Zeiss or many other sites.
I am hoping to find a dealer in the Phoenix area that might have one in stock that I can look at. I have looked at the Swarovski Z6 at the local Bass Pro shop and did notice that it was brighter than other scopes they had in the case but they did not have a Zeiss Diavari. I cannot recall whether they had a Zeiss Conquest or not but I will check back this weekend.
From what I can tell the Zeiss Diavari is a good scope but it might be a little high in magnification on the low end for what is my probable most frequent use ...targets less than 250 yards 90% of the time and targets less than 150 yards 75% of the time.
Thank you to all for the replies/information to date. Walter |

does it say made in germany on the side, if not it could be some of the Z series scope made in the US which were marginal. and currently replaced by the classics. ( much improved version, however not enough to replace the plastic turrets).

the scope has the T coatings zeiss used on their camera lenses in the 90's, probably worth somewhere around $1k. about a year ago there was alot of post on this and some aspects of zeiss z made in us. can't think of the post but it might be under T-bone or something. much better scope than conquests, hope you like FFP/ |

I have owned this scope. It is not first focal plane and is not the Z series. The Z series has much less eye relief. It may be a bit much on the magnification side for what you want, but I'd be willing to bet it would fetch ~$700-750 on ebay.

Thanks to all that have replied and supplied valuable information. I have decided to go for the rifle and to negotiate a different scope, primarily because of the 5-15 range. I will look for something like the Swarovski 1.7-10 or the 2-12.
Thanks again for all the assistance.
