i just unboxed my new tikka and the bolt is uncocked.  When the bolt is in the uncocked position the lug will not slide into its grrove on the receiver and allow the bolt to close rendering the rifle useless because of the bolt situation.  I am just a dummy or what????

I had a Sako that you had to put a key into the bolt....

Great rifle, but a silly safety feature. Yours got "The Key Concept"??

not sure if I'm reading the post correctly, but sounds like you just need to re-cock the bolt, some sakis come with a bolt cocking and decocking tool, a lg. plastic plate with a hole in it.

Dale is correct.  You should have a plastic disk or knob that came with the rifle that is used for both cocking/uncocking and disassembling the bolt.  Simply slide it over the bolt shroud, turn it clockwise and you're good to go.  If you don't have the tool, simply put the bolt in a padded vise and grasp the cocking piece with a rag wrapped around it and rotate clockwise.

Yep, I forgot about that. I don't have the Sako anymore, but I still have the "cocker tool" if you need one.

Good catch, gentlemen.

this is exactly what i did.  Rifle was not supplied with any sort of cocking tool.  Everything worked out and is shooting great.  For those of youthat care I put a Nikon Monarch 3.5-10x50 with illuminated reticle on it not exactly what i wanted but it was a good price and local.  Leupold bases and rings which i am really happy with.  Thanks everybody
