ok, i just finished my tactical entry rifle... its a RRA lower with a ace AFRX-e stock, NM trigger, Elite CAR upper with the midlenght handhuard, and i oredered my acc., a YHM light wiehgt 4 rail handguard, MOUT sling, and a verticle grip from bravocompanyusa.com, and a first samco grip from cabelas. and i decided to use a ML2 in a GG&G mount i had laying around. and since i felt guilty about buy NOTHING for this from SWFA, i went and ordered my sniper rifle. and at the moment, i am broke, so i have a month, or better to decide which scope to get. either the SS10X42M, or the leupold MK4 10X M1. its a 700 PSS, i will be ordering MK4 bases foirm swfa, and badger rings. what rings will clear the scopes with butler creek flip ups on this gun??? im thinking about getting the max 50's. tell me your opinions.

I did some numbers with the MK4 base and TPS "low" rings and found that they would easily have enough clearance on a 700 with a 40mm OBJ. I dont have the numbers to compare the rings to the Badgers but I would bet that the "low" rings will provide adequate clearance even with the caps.
I learned that in the end, cheek weld and personal preference on head placement relative to the stock rules. I abandoned my goal to always keep the optics as close to the bore axis as possible. On my last bolt, I gained some performance by raising the scope .2".
My opinion is to always evaluate the weakest link. I think that stresses on the optics tube and a shift in the base to rcvr is more likely to be a long-term detriment than any shift between the rings to scope. Given you most likely have a .308, the contact surface area on both base to ring and ring to scope tube is way overkill with the Max-50s. The added width of the rings will pronounce any error in tolerance when you seat them together and that will put more stress on the tube.
Having your base bedded to the receiver will provide more benefit then the addition of the Max-50 rings. Of course you can always lapp the rings however I think it is less of a necessity with the standard ones.

havnt gotten the upper back from the gunsmith, but i will be posting some pics as soon as i get it back, which should be today wit any luck. i am going to go with the standard badgers, and at the moment im going with a GG&G 20MOA base, HS precision stock with the adjustable cheek peice, and butt, and a Hart #5 contour barrel. i think im going to go with medium high rings though, but i mihgt downsize to medium. my 300 ultra mag has low rings, and a Vari-x III 4.5-14, and i had to slide the scope forward, becuase it rested on the barrel.
