Hi, I am considering these for my Disc Elite .50 and Sightron SII 3-9 X42. Anyone familiar with the Maxima and Premier bases? I am wondering what the difference is. Thanks for any help, Todd |

The Maxima series is designed much like Leupold's QRW series of bases which are interchangeable with the Weaver style of bases. The Premier series is similar to Talley's rings, which are split vertically and come in either fixed or quick release versions. Talley uses a recoil shoulder on their bases and Warne uses a recoil slot on their Premier series of bases. Talley and Warne Premier series are widely considered to be among the very best available.

Thanks Roy, I appreciate the info. I have actually changed my mind on the gun, I'm going with an Encore instead, but am keeping the scope/mount choices. I am going with the Warne Maxima base and rings. I will probably be back with some more questions or to lurk a bit. Take it easy, Todd |

Just my 2 cents worth, but why are you going with the Encore over the Knight? It's not that I am saying anything negative about the Encore, but, the Knight Disc Extreme or Elite are widely considered to be the vey best out there. My Disc Extreme with shoot 1" groups or less at 100 yrds. with the Barnes MZ 250 gr. bullets over 3 ( 150 grs.) Pyrodex and can keep 3 shots under 4 inches at 200 yrds any day of the week. The Knight has a much better trigger also. Buy what you want, but I know two other people who have the same Knight I have and they are just as pleased. Good luck and happy hunting!!!! |

Well, the main factor initially was that the Disc Elite does not come with iron sights, and drilling into the barrel to add them voids the factory warranty. Some of the states I hunt require iron sights, no scopes allowd. Fortunately for you with your Extreme, you don't have that concern. 2nd, I have checked out both the Knight and the TC extensively, and frankly prefer the Encore. I have spoken to a number of people and read the reviews of many others and understand the Encores to be as accurate as the Discs, many reporting accuracy better than 4" at 200 yards. This is saying a lot as the Disc Elite is considered one of the most accurate out of the box muzzleloaders available. For me, I prefer the way the Encore feels in my hands, and the way it shoulders. Finally, zero blowback and extreme ease of cleaning made my decision final. You have yourself a fine firearm in that Extreme, I am hopeful I too have made a good choice. I'll certainly let you all know my progress. Good luck hunting to you too! Hope you bag a nice one this season. Todd |

hmm, why would you want open sights if your going to mount a scope, i use either one, or the other. have you by chance looked into the TC omega, i have the laminate thumbhole one, and it is NICE, havnt shot it at targets passed 150, but at 150 with 150 grs of pyrodex, not pellets, it would make 3 powerbelts touch almost.

Hey, I am going to mount the scope because I prefer it here where it is legal. However, I intend on hunting in other states, some of which only allow iron sights. In those areas, I will remove my scope (QR Rings) and use the iron sights. This is not an option on the Disc Elite for the afore-mentioned lack of iron sights and no way to mount them without voiding the warranty. Glad to hear of your success with that Omega! They are awesome and would have been my next choice after the Encore. It just fits me better and has the versatility of different barrels. From what I have learned it should have similar accuracy to your Omega. Todd Edited by trekker |

For what it's worth..... There is a reason Leupold QRW's are much like the Warne Maxima Rings. It's so nice to be able to remove the optics form the rifle for cleaning or hunting. Re-mount and you're still sighted in. The Leupold PRW and QRW series rings are built in the Warne factory in Oregon.
