Didn't have anything important to post here; just thought this forum was a little lonely with no posts in it, so I decided to break the ice.
So, what type of shooting do you do?

I shoot to sight in my hunting rifles and tons of plinking while woods walking. I also shoot my carry pistols a lot.
I need to get back into service rifle and combat pistol competition, though.

Handgun: Speed steel, USPSA/IPSC, and plinking
Rifle: Sighting in, Target (for fun), Long range (600-1000 yd for fun), Any type of hunting from squirels to the biggest animal i can get a tag for. Would like to try a few competitions to see what they are like.

Started in PPC and bullseye when into the service and got hooked on shooting Service Rifle. Now anything I get time for. All work and no play makes Mikey one miserable critter to be around.

Most of my rifle shooting these days is when I test riflescopes. I just do not have the time to do much more than that. Making it out to an indoor pistol range is a little easier since ther eis one not far from my work and I go during lunch. I even got a bunch of my left-leaning coworkers to go shooting with me and a few really liked it. One even bought his own ammo and goes to the range with me to practice. Once he figured out that it is pretty challenging, he became interested in improving.

Mainly pistols and target with rifles, just to stay in practice. I can't hardly find anything range wise for practicing the really long distance stuff.

When I'm not deer and hog hunting, turkey hunting with shotgun and bow, predator hunting, load testing, or pistol shooting at steel, I like to plink with my rimfires, shoot my benchrest rifle, long range target, and explode prairie dogs. I used to compete in 3D archery, but I don't have time for all the travel anymore, but I still like to fling arrows as well as bullets.

I just started shooting/reloading within the last 8 months. Got a lot of free time on my hands, and needed a new hobby. Now I'm reloading everyday, shooting at the range a few times a week, and reading all of the posts on opticstalk. I was at the range 2 weeks ago and a gun club was trying to get people interested in their sillouette off-hand high power centerfire rifle competitions. It looks like a lot of fun, but trying to hit those metal targets offhand out to 600 meters was really tough. Probably just need more practice, 1 out of 15 probably won't win any competitions.

Forgot about the hunting part. I'm trying to get into hunting as well. The only thing I've ever shot was a few dove. Got a cow elk tag this year, but failed to get one. I blame it on it being my first big game hunt ever. Saw quite a few, but never really had the chance to get a good shot off. It's amazing that those things can disappear in the woods. I guess it's live and learn.

welcome to a great sport. keep trying that elk hunting. Most states only average about 20% success for elk hunting, and the includes cows. It is only about 5-7% for bulls. That translates to one ever 5 years or so if you are like me. took me years before i got one.
off hand shooting is great practice to have. most people can shoot off a rest, but have a hard time offhand. keep that pracitce up. good luck and good shooting.

Shoot for hunting, to practice hunting and anytime in between - big bore, rimfire, shotgun. Have an informal range at the hunt camp with running deer target that is loads of fun, also shoot trap there as well. Occasionally shoot the revolvers but not as often as I'd like.

Hunting, plinking, defense shooting, tactics training, I also really enjoy just shooting prone at the range and shooting for groups at many distances. I have successfully shot 3 inch groups at 600 yards now several times and it is a lot of fun and gives a good sense of accomplishment.
While hunting I really enjoy stalking my game. I think it is a lot more fun and a bigger rush to track and sneak up on game than to sit and wait for them to come to you. |

I was heavy into USPSA/IPSC and steel pistol matches, but I have gotten a little burned out on them. So Ive been playing the distance game now with my 223 and 308 and soon to be 300wsm Im aquiring from Supertool73. No actual matches yet just playing around hitting steel and paper at distance. One thing Ive found is this precision long range stuff has made me a better handloader. I enjoy the loading almost as much as I enjoy the shooting.

I shoot anything I can get my hands on at anything thats legal pretty much. When I go to my makeshift range I take my .17 HMR and .22 along with whatever centerfires I decide to take that day, and shoot paper, milk jugs, whatever. That is when not hunting squirrels, rabbits, doves, grouse deer, pronghorn antelope, and pheasants. (who could live in SD and not hunt pheasants) Still waiting for the elusive Black Hills elk tag though. Lately have been taking my 10 year old daughter along and got her up to shooting the .243, and my 6 year old shooting the HMR. It's a great feeling to see them get out and shoot, and watch their eyes light up when their water filled pop can explodes.
