    Posted: December/20/2009 at 21:55
Im looking for a scope for around $1000 or less for my AR10T that will allow me to shoot about 600 yds. Im thinking I want MOA adjustments but only because I don't think im familiar enough with the mil system to use it with proficiency.
I am mainly wanting to shoot coyotes, hogs, and paper with this new toy.
Thanks for the advice in advance.

To shoot at 600yds and around that distance only I would use the 20x Super Sniper.  If you doing coyote hunting we all know that they can get up close and personal and you want a low setting for that.  I would personally recommend the 3x9SS for the AR10 platform. You could go with a larger variable scope but you have to remember to keep your low end power no higher than around 4-5x max.  Of course a lot of "yote" hunters have used high power variable scopes for the long shots and keep a shotgun for the up close runners.  Depends on your comfort level.  Can't go wrong with the SS though.

As soon as you started talking about coyotes and hogs you started talking about needing something that would work in low light and at 5x this should work quite nicely in low light and have 20x for days when you want to shoot paper on the range in daylight.  The illuminated reticle is very nice and does not require any batteries. Clicks are 1/4moa and it has 50 MOA of total adjustment thats probably about 25 up so you should  be good to 600 but if you needed to go to 1000 you would have to put a plus moa base on like

Still I would not use that base unless I really working mostly at 600 and past that so for mounts

I would stay away from MOA adjustments unless the scope also had a MOA reticle.  Way too many scope out there use a mil reticle and MOA adjustments, making you have to do one more conversion before dialing in your adjustment.

Honestly in your price range the 3-9x SS is a good bet, however it is a mil/mil scope (not hard at all to learn btw).  The lower magnification might hurt a tiny bit if you are chasing bullseyes, but in all honesty it really comes down more to the shooter.  The lower magnification and FFP reticle will make holdovers, windcalls, and leads much easier.

Thanks for the help! I may try the mill dot Trijicon. Since you recommend it i assume the glass is of good quality for the money. (may not comapre to NF but half the $$) I have a Trijicon red dot on a 5.7x28 upper, love the automaticaly adjusting dot and the durability.

I figure 600 yds will be the limit of my ability for now..so i may not need the MOA base, but thanks for the warning.
