Which less expensive lines of scopes are known for accurate adjustments? My wife and kids won't make use the darkest minutes of shooting light so there's no need to spend the money for better glass. I would spend money to save ammo at sight-in, though. So, Weaver, Sightron, who else?

When you say less expensive -  that is a relative term compared to US OPTICS and things in the 3K price range lots of stuff is less expensive.  At the same time you want to get above the quality of junk.  So I will suggest the best value in a moderately priced optic is the Super Sniper  SS line of optics from SWFA they produce them to their own specs and maintain good quality control while standing behind them with extremely high customer satisfaction. While I have no idea what rifle you wish to put glass on I will suggest that I am extremely fond of my SS fixed 16x 42 Mil Quad scope. I have had most of the scopes in the SS line. This is quite serviceable and I would take one to a gunfight with high confidence.  At 16x it is a scope that you will be using a solid rest not shooting off hand but you will be able to see the holes in the target where lower magnifications are less likely to.  It all depends on what you want to spend but its hard - really hard to get something that works satisfactory for less money than this .  http://swfa.com/MRAD-C4225.aspx    Watch for Black Friday Specials you might get a good package deal with rings etc

I would take a look at the Leupold VX-1, that line has nice click adjustments and they

are fully coated and offer a nice value.  The 3-9x40 can be found for around $199.

SWFA has them in stock.  I have one, so I have experience.

I don't have experience with the ones you have mentioned, so I cannot offer anything

there, and the previous poster was way off, recommending a 16X scope for hunting,

to you in this case, wowsa.  Big Smile

Thanks for the replies. I did not see anything in the ss line that would fit. I did not know Leopold's low end scopes had better adjustments these days. Have to look at those.

And, yes, I'm interested in low power variables for light, compact hunting rifles to be used by those who are scared of the dark.
