My brother and I got out for the woodcock opener a few weeks back. Grouse opens on the 15th and woodcock on the third Saturday of September. It was warm and there were high winds, so the birds wouldn't hold. We had dozens of flushes because the wind made them skittish but the dogs did quite well. The best thing was my 6 month old Drahthaar got to get out with Kev's short hair. We all carried 28 ga. guns, my brother with his SKB, me with a DeHaan and our friend with his Bennelli Ulra Light. This gauge is sweet in the tangles of the thickets. Of course the girls love to get a treat |

When you are dead, you don't know you are dead.It is difficult only for others.
It is the same when you are stupid. |

love watching the dogs work on a bird hunt. I'm heading about an hour up the road in a couple weeks for a big quail hunt. There will be some pheasants and chuckars as well but I just like the quail as they are the tastiest IMO

Chukar is a partridge. We also call the ruffed grouse partridge or pats but they are not and are different birds.
