New member. I have been lurking for awhile. Here is my situation. Ruger 77 6.5x55 with a Burris 6x40 fixed power. Very nice combo EXCEPT when a deer is within 50 yards. This scope is fine in low light conditions. I want to go to a fixed 4x or a 2-7 type variable. No more than a 40mm objective.
For the fixed, all I can find new are Weaver K4, Leupold and IOR.
The 2-7's I am thinking about are the Elite 3200, Weaver, and Mueller Multi shot.
I hunt swamps, woods, and an occasional field. 300 yards would be a long shot.
I don't want to spend more than $300-350, and if the scope can make the deer grow horns that would be great, too!

SVT- I was looking at that one. I emailed Sightron and they did not think that it would fit Ruger's long action ring spacing without modification.??

I used to hunt with a 4X (still have it on a .22) and that would work alright. I'd prefer a variable though, whether a 2-7 or 3-9 (maybe a 1.5-6 like the new Burris MTAC???).

I don't know what max distances you may have to shoot to but I'm (thru default) hunting with a Leupold M8 2.5x20 w/hvy plex on my .270 M70 Classic Fwt this yr. First time I've really spent anytime with the scope since I bought it for a spare for my 9.3x62. It's surprising the heck out of me. Because the hvy rain finally let up this evening the deer started moving at last light and I could see well into the woodline with no problem. When scoping the brown open field with my naked eye and then thru the scope I could definitely tell a diff in brightness. Also I'd have no concerns about having to take a shot in 300yd range with it. It may have found a home actually. If not this was my second choice behind the 4X Conquest I bought.
