Don't quit now Professor Ed. You still have to get through WWI, and 60 years of aviation.

I have a couple of great books on early aviation. But I lacked a great book on World War I flying. So, I wanted to do a whole section of World War One before I went into the post-war years. In the meantime, I was packing to move to Texas. I still have not gotten a big encyclopedic book of WWI fliers ( but I do have a book which decribes the aircraft ).....anyway, I just put this on hold for a while. And now EVERYONE has turned my cool thread into a ......er.........a......BIGDADDY!!!!! |

Ed, the leap that aviation took during WWI was huge, and I don't think you could cover it as thoroughly as the other stuff, without dieing of old age (did I say that?). You should have stopped at the Air Force Museum, at Wright Patterson AFB, outside of Dayton, Ohio, on your way to Texas. They cover from concept to the beginning of WWII in 1/6th of the Museum (at least the last time I was there).
The technical advances made after the war are more interesting than the advances of WWI. I mean all they did really was slightly more efficient engines, develope fighter and bomber specific aircraft, some streamlining, synchronized gun systems with propellers, and develope tactics.
The advances made after WWI, are more interestig; constant speed props, oxygen systems, all metal construction, turbo chargers, better airfoils, and on, and on.
Come on man! Get with it, and don't get hung up on something.

Ed, you know how it is here, nothing's really safe.
Continue picking up where you left off pre-WWI and then create a separate more in-dept WWI thread. |
