I have a pair of these see-through rings on a little savage bolt action and am having a hard time keeping them from walking off the front.

A dab of super glue lasts a little while. Is there some way to install a set screw? Get an airgun scope stop?

I'd like to keep the ability to drop down to the iron sights occasionally.

I'd ditch those for a set of quick detach.  That way you can have the scope when you want and take off for when you dont.

SVT beat me to it, but I concur. Those rings are just not good.
If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

Quick detach will require re-zeroing the scope every time it comes on and off though. I would really like to keep see-through ability for quick shots up close. I have a ridiculously expensive volquartsen set up on my target 22.

I guess I could go totally off the top and put a reflex sight beside the scope in case a bull prairie dog charges in too close for the scope.

Well if you are absolutely set on those types of rings, I would get different ones with the bolt through them to hold them in place.

it may require a new base as well that has the slots all the way through to make it fit.

You don't have to re zero with good quick detach rings

+1 for ditching those rings in favor of detachables.
