for something tactical. im thinking about scratching it with either a LTR in 308 win, or maybe a 700p, or VS in 308 win, with a mcmillan stock with the rasing cheek rest, and of course a SS10X42 in badger rings/bases. what do yall think??

thanks 300rem7, what would be your choice.

also some more info, the LTR would be left stock, but i dont know how they shoot, and i was hoping to use this for 1000yards. the 700p, or VS would be changed to a mcmillan stock, like i said in my first post. im thinking about with either one i get make a fake can for it, with the 20" barrel, it would probably help a bit with muzzle blast aswell.

i might try the one that comes on it, im pretty sure its the HS that comes on both of the tactical remington rifles, and i know the one on the VS is a hs, but i dont think the web stock is very tactical looking. i would look at those HTR's, but i want a remington action, and remington only. have you shot it BTW??? might look at the magnum research tacical rifle, or a norcal precision.

Cory,

I fully agree with Manuel, I have a 700P with the pro series H-S stock and love it. I had the Mcmillan A3 and was looking for something new, so I ordered a H-S PST-025 like the one pictured by manuel, its leeps and bounds better than the mcmillan in my book. I'd go with the 700P, unless you just want to save weight, but why, The heavier guns tend to be alot more stable and have less recoil. Reguardless of what is being written these days on the LTR and short barrel guns in general, the long barrel is still superior for long range precision. Take a look at any F-class competition or check out some PALMA sites and see if you can find anyone shooting a 20" barrel, it just wont happen. Good luck and good shootin. You'll be happy with whichever you choose.

good point, but it would be nice if this could double as a really long range deer rifle, and while i would only go to a certain point in the field, and shoot X yards to the target, still getting it to the location can be a real PITA. especially when the gun weighs 10+ pounds. and long range, im talkin 500+ yards, i would draw the line at 1000.

I duno, but I'm in leaning  with the pallet, could I get that in hand rubbed Linspeed? Also the Remington action is The way to go! Usually the longer barrel lengths are used to get the most out of the 308 for ballistic coef. purposes. but do not confuse the point that a 20" is any less accurate at any range. Just a thought. Remingtons Varmit with the laminate which already comes with a 26 inch barrel and takes second to none in the accuracy department. $600 any scope you want, and you still got money left over to refinish the pallet.

That CTR is beautiful but to rich for my blood. I agree with Dale but with the 700P and a X.O.T.I.C. with either badger or talley ring setup.

ok, as of this moment in time, this is what i have in mind, buy a 700 adl in 308 win, selling everything but the action, and bolt, putting a badger ordanance oversized bolt handle on, jewel trigger, hs precision stock, remington drop floorplate mag, black matte barrel, not sure which brand yet, badge. ord. rings/base, and leupold MK4 3.5-10x40 M3 illuminated mil-dot scope.

Cory, I think Dale is right on the money, in every way. The 700 action is the way to go. If you look closely at the picture of the IP CTR ( upper right picture) you will see that it has the Sako extractor installed which will set you back $150 right out of the gate. If you do so have it done buy a competent gunsmith that is familiar will the correct way to perform the conversion. In a nutshell, you get a free bolt face squaring during the process. You will have plenty of money leftover, as Dale stated, to make decisions about the rest of our project.

I got to thinking again......i know i shouldnt think, but i couldnt help myself.... friday night while running back, and forth around the pond chasing a beaver, a thought came to mind about another AR15 for killing beavers at close range, since my 12LB. RRA varmint 18" w/ a SS10X42 was a little on on the heavy side.....when i went, and sat back down, i thought hard....once again, i know i shouldnt think, it can be dangerous to myself, much less others....but, how does a RRA 16" A2 "tactified" maybe with a grenade launcher (for looks) quadrail handguard, carbine stock, a ACOG, and ANOTHER SS10X42 in QD rings, with a few 30 round mags filled with Q3131A sound??? im liking it.... i think im jsut gonna save money for a month, or so, and then flip a coin. i think i could use the AR15 more, but Mr.washington will choose.
