The Vortex Viper angled spotting scope includes a picatinny rail so a red dot aiming device can be attached to the scope. In fact, they produce a YouTube video showing how a red dot device can be used on the scope to help in finding objects. As far as I know, the Vortex Viper is the only spotting scope that has this feature (why other manufacturers don't include this inexpensive, handy feature is a another question).

My question is does anybody have any instructions for attaching a picatinny rail to a spotting scope so a red dot device could be attached to the rail? Or is there a good reason why I wouldn't want to do this? I've seen the instructions for attaching cable ties as an aiming device and I suppose they kind of work, but a red dot firmly attached to the scope seems to be a much better way of aiming the scope.

Thanks for any suggestions or comments!

Its mostly for finding targets quickly in the field.

But one thing that fast tracks that is implementing a red dot on your spotter using low magnification will alllow you to be right on target with your spotter.

I would say using red dots would be optimum, because there is no magnification and the eye relief is unlimited essentially.
