The zeiss is the best value, but I think you'll find that the kx has better optics and the swaro is a step above the kx. Its just a matter of deminishing returns, as always to take that next step up usually requires an increasing amount of investment. Yes the swaro and kx are better scopes than the zeiss, but I believe the zeiss is the best value. |

IMHO, the Kahles would get you nothing over the Zeiss or the Swarovski you listed. The Zeiss is the best bang for buck amongst the three listed. The Swarovski is the better scope as well as customer service and warranty. Edited by mike650 - October/11/2008 at 18:49 |

I have never owned any of the three you ask about, but I have a 3.5-10x,44 Zeiss Conquest. I have used it for several years. The image is bright and clear; shooting at dawn or dusk is not a problem.
I chose the 44mm objective because it gives you 21% more light than a 40mm objective, and 10% more than a 42mm objective. I think a 3.5-10x,44 will be as bright as either the Helia KX or Swaro AV with their 42mm objectives. |

I own Zeiss Conquest and Swaro AH. I really like the Conquest - it is a great deal in a scope - I really love the Swaro, worth every additional penny, in my opinion: brighter, clearer, better optics, better controls, great reticle (ballisitic reticle.)
If I had the need and the money, I'd buy the Swaro over the Conquest. If the Swaro is too much, the Conquest is still a great scope. |

To the best of my knowledge, it really doesn't work that way, a %. All the larger objective does for you is to allow the use of higher mag - like 9X vs 6x - all other factors being equal. Has to do with how wide your eye will dialate, which is usually like 7mm I think! Any amount above that is wasted - so to speak, because your eye can't take advantage of it. |

rooshooter just square the radius of each lens and compare the differences.
Example:
the 40 mm - Radius is 20 or 400 square mm
the 50 mm - Radius is 25 or 625 square mm
- difference between these is 225 square mm or 56%
And yes, all else being equal it just allows you to use higher mag while maintaining a good exit pupil.
40mm at 8X = 5mm exit
50mm at 10x = 5mm exit Edited by Dogger - October/16/2008 at 11:24 |
