I decided to post this after giving some advise on a new stock in another thread. The new rifle, announced at the SHOT Show, is from Legendary Arms Works and they are offering a new rifle that has some unique features, especially the action. Called the 704, this action has a CRF feature in that it features controlled round feeding, but without the long blade extractor like the model 70 Winchester has and Mauser designs. Originally this action was designed by Ed Brown, well known for his fantastic 1911's, and he designed a completely new control round extractor incorporated into the right bolt lug. The action also features a 3 pos safety and a side bolt release and has the foot print of a Remington 700 making a wide variety of aftermarket stocks available if you so choose. Given the fact that these new rifles feature Mark Bansner's High Tech stocks, it is unlikely that you would need to spend the extra money on say a McMillan as the High Tech stocks Mark made were highly regarded. The rifle also features a custom made aluminum BDL style floor plate and a Timney trigger as well. Lots of calibers offered and even the new Nosler 26 is on the menu too. I think they have a real winner and street prices should come in around $1400. A lifetime warranty is included and a sub-MOA accuracy guarantee wraps it up.

Excellent price, given the components!

You couldn't buy the components alone for that price Ted.

Shoot, any Remington footprint custom action you could buy alone will cost a minimum of $900. A decent synthetic stock will cost min $350. Add a barrel blank, the lathe work to thread, chamber/headspace, contour, and crown, and you're looking at another $700 or so at least. Add trigger for $150, bottom metal and magazine parts for $250, metal finish for $150 - $200 or so, stock painting for another $150 - $200...

$1400 is a damn good deal!

Roy, I heard the Trop Gun Shop was one of the owners. True or false?

Yup, Trop teamed up with Mark Bansner to build these rifles. Word has it that Mark will oversee the operation and not just have his good name attached for sales reasons. That is good news as Mark built one heck of a nice rifle and they were very accurate.

Id like it better if it ran detachable AI mags. I hate being strck w 3-4 rounds.

Mark made the announcement that their first order of business was to get the "production" versions out there on the market. Afterwards, they will be offering a "custom shop" service that will allow customers to custom spec their rifles and they will be "similar to what Mark Bansner offered during his 30 year career in building made to order custom rifles, but because of all the modern production capabilities regarding the new stock production, CNC manufactured actions and a better supply of barrels, the new "custom shop" offering will cost substantially less that Mark's one at a time builds. I can't wait to see these new rifles up close and personal. Before this announcement of these new rifles, I was all set to order a Defiance Rebel action with a 3 pos safety, integral recoil lug, Borden/Jarrett action facets along with a custom made aluminum Oberndorf bottom metal fro McMillan who sub contracted Sunny Hill to make them for McMillan. This new rifle, while not a full blown custom like the one I was about to assemble is giving me serious pause. The custom LAW only needs to be offered in the new 28 Nosler and it should be a serious long range hammer. Worst case scenario is, if it doesn't shoot up to my satisfaction, I'd just send it to Hart for a 25" #4 fluted stainless and I'm quite sure my accuracy concerns would be laid to rest altogether.
