I came across a used Leica ER 5 2-10x50 for about the same price as the new Vortex Razor HD LH 2-10x40. Which would you choose?

Damn, I read part of your post and missed the most important part. On the Leica, they won't touch it if you are not the original owner, or so they have told me twice before. Vortex has no such issue. I've owned scopes from both, still own several Vortex - though not the specific one you are looking at. On used optics, I tread lightly. Warranties play a big part on gear you plan to really use.

Does the VX5 have the zero lock turret and the firedot reticle? If it has those things and you like to shoot multiple distances and in low light those are a big plus.

I have a Leica ER5, and it's a nice scope to look through, contrast is very good and eye positioning is pretty forgiving.
It's a much bulkier scope than the Razor HD LH though, not just the 50mm objective, but overall length is more. I mean, on tge plus side you have a lot of flexibility to use different mounting action and even magnum length actions should be troouble free...it's just a big scope for a 2-10 power. I don't personally care for the Razor HD LH though, camw close to buying one when they were on clearance locally, but couldn't take the plunge. Maybe just personal preferences, I feel like to ER5 is better to look through. |
