greetings again folks,

this time i have a question on what i believe is length of pull.  i recently bought a conquest 3-9x40 and slapped in on my sako a7.  the conquest replaced a viper 2-7x32.  when the viper was on the rifle, it felt very natural to get behind the scope and my cheek weld was pretty consistent.  when i pulled the rifle up to my shoulder, it just felt right and my sight picture was almost always exactly where it needed to be.

now that i've put the conquest on there, i find that i have to back off some because of it's longer eye relief.  i don't have the option of moving the scope farther forward in the talley 1 peice mounts, it's already as far as it can go, so i was wondering if there are such a thing as spacers to lengthen the buttstock a little, and if so where to get them?  or, is it something i would have to make?

eventually i'd like to put this rifle into a different stock, but that's not really an option now, before hunting season this year.

thanks in advance for any help.

I've see some really rough looking spacers made and then some really nice ones.  From thick leather material cut to match to a rubber spacer.  You can make something to put between the stock and recoil pad that can make it long.

You may also consider a slip-on pad that can be easily put on right over the factory pad. Simms (SVL) makes a decent one. It can increase your effective LOP by about 3/4".

I like the idea of a slip on as well. And might as well get a recoil reduction as well. Some of my friends have had the best luck with Kick EZZ.

i actually replaced the factory pad with a limbsaver just after buying the rifle...  was hoping i could find something that fit between the recoil pad and the butt, but thanks for the recommendation on the slip on... if i can't figure something else out, i may go that way.

You can get a spacer that you could then use a file, scroll saw, or dremel to shape.  Lots of the shooting stores have them.  I just did a quick search on a quasi-competitor's (not to be named per forum rules) website, and they are both available and cheap.  $5-10 depending on the thickness you need.  I would just do a quick internet search for "stock spacer" and you should find exactly what you are looking for.  Hope this helps.

Did you try the rifle/scope combo with your hunting clothes on? A seemingly perfect fit for eye relief and length of pull can and will be changed by adding thick clothing.

i did not... and thank you for the reminder.  i do think it would still benefit from the spacer, even with a few layers on.  if, with the spacer on it, and my hunting clothes on, it's too far, or i can't pull it into my shoulder enough to make it work, i can still take the spacer back out.

i think sometime next year i'll have to buy another stock for it anyway, since i'm liking the stock....stock less and less.

thanks again for all the reminders and help!
