I am putting a 42 mm objective scope on my Sako 75 Varmint, and I am curious about Talley rings. Currently the Sako Opti-Lok rings and bases sit on the rifle, (they are the high rings). I am taking off the 56 mm objective scope, so I want the 42 mm scope to sit lower. I also have a pair of unused Leupold Sako "Super High" rings, which I would like to trade even for either another pair of Leupold Sako rings "medium", or a pair of Talley rings in medium height. These are the 30 mm rings by the way. I have never owned Talley rings before, and I am curious if they are of equal quality to the Leupold rings in regards to machining tolerances. Thanks!

Talley are great rings and the tolerances are pretty similar.  Good luck with the trade.

Talley and Leupold are both very nice.

I don't own a Sako rifle so I can't help much in that regards. I've read mixed stories here about choosing rings and bases for a Sako so I'll let others address your questions.

My experience with both Talley and Leupold:

I have two sets of Talley "fixed". What I've found is Talley mounts sit a little higher than Leupold and the finish on the steel models not as good. I had one set of rings rust on me, I sent them back and were replaced within a few days. The design and quality of the Talley product itself is superb as well as the customer service. I'll be buying Talleys again.

Leupold: I've used the "dual dove tail" on many of my rifles and never had an issue. I changed over to Talley's on two of my rifles when I sold the Leupold scopes mounted on each.

Thanks guys. My Sako has an integral dovetail machined into the action, so I don't need any bases. If you all know anyone who might want to trade, please let me know.

Thanks again,

I just talked to Talley on the phone, and found out that I need to buy their 2 piece base for the "fixed rings" to work with my Sako 75. I think that I would rather trade/purchase the Leupold Ringmount part # 51036.

I've got a medium set of Leupolds on my Sako M591 and they work great.  No problems and been on there for years.

I've got Talley's on my Sako 75. I've been through Optilocks, Warne's, Conetrol's and one other that I can't remember. I'll keep the Talley's. You just drive the bases onto the tapered dovetail with a mallet or wood block, lightly turn the set screw in and you are good to go.

Nope, I don't have any scopes bigger than 50mm and that only requires a high ring not a super high.
