30 years ago one summer i loaded wheat straw chopped cotton cut calves built fence and other stuff.to buy a scope for deer hunting.back then our deer population was building back    and i do not believe we even had coyotes. i bought a leupold vari-x 111 for a $160. for a few years i used it for hunting on a 742.then i got out of college . it was then i got into ranching full time.the leupold scope stayed with me full time.i put it on a 700.and got a burris 1.75x5 and put on the 742.the 700 road with me 10 months of the year and the 742 was used during deer season. after a few years one of the lenses came loose in the burris. i sent it back it was fixed very quickly and returned. i highly recommend burris's warranty . during this time i bought a bushnell korean 4x you could not evev set it i took it back and exchanged it. the next one the up and right adjustment came off. i was glad when the burris got back. my good deer hunting buddy says i am the hardest on equipment he has ever seen he made it on tv for killing the biggest buck around here.{i know where he killed it} .after 30 yrs riding in the truck 3&4 wheeler cotton picker combine tractor we ran over it with the truck.this scope i had used for 30 yrs finally broke.the finish was nearly wore off on one side it had numerous dents and scatches on it.i remember it falling off the horse dropping it off the ridge rolling the four wheeier on it maby it was the three wheeler and dropping it in the creek one of the above broke the big screw on the redfield scope mount.it helped me keep cows safe for nearly 30 yrs.a few years before i broke it i got some pentax dcf wp binos 8x42 at 350 yds you could see horns just before dark that you couldn't see with the leupold. during the daylight no difference .at 350 yds just before dark i saw this 8 pt fighting with a doe picking up the leupold i could see no horns so i shot the biggest deer it turned out to be a old buck with small spikes it dressed out 180 lbs.then i wanted to try a different scope  in one year i tried a simmons atec & a nikon monarch the simmons fogged up within 2 months and eractor ? came loose on the monarch . i had to pay a little to get the simmons fixed the monarch was so new they gave me a new scope. i put the leupold back on . i prefer reliability over optical clairty. in my opinion both scopes were clearer than the leupold with the nikon being the best .any way my gunsmith tried to straighten the barrel on the 700 and glue the stock ,wast of time.but he encouraged me to send the scope back . i told leupold that i broke it could they fix it i would pay for it . i got a phone from them after they looked at it. i was told they were going to send me a new one for they didn't make one like mine anymore which one did i want.i was very surprised they sent me a vx3 which looks clearer than the monarch.what a warrenty|||| on my working rifles i have used 5 scopes leupold lasted 30yrs, burris several years, nikon shook loose in a few months, simmons less than 2 months and bushnell bad out of the box.i think the leupold was worth the money.

No arguments from me and now I believe the VX3 can compete with anything in its price range.  Hopefully they'll update the other lines also.
