So I traded a guy for one of these a couple weeks back.  I feel I got a bit shafted as the gentleman told me it had firedot illumination and when I get it and open it up that was not the case.  He claims he thought it did and would not trade me back.  In his defense, he may not have as the scope was still factory sealed and had never been open.  But still it really irked me.

I really debated on trying to resell it or trade it in, and replace it with another with firedot, but decided I didn't want to take the hit on the price and the time trying to sell it.

But anyway.  VX6.  So far I am quite impressed.  The glass is great, I don't have my Swaro any more so I cannot compare directly to it, but it is very good.  A couple nights ago I had it strapped to a tripod in my back yard and was looking at a cat way after sun set and could see it really well.  So for legal hunting times, I think it is going to work very well.  It has a bolder reticle than my Swaro, so really it will probably be a better low light hunter.    There is zero tunneling when adjusting the mag, and really it almost feels like you are not looking through a tube at all.  IT just has a very thin circle around the image, its almost hard to tell you are looking through a scope.  I like that.

The scope is seems nice and compact for a 2-12x.  The duplex is very bold.  It has the zero lock CDS turret with 1/4 moa adjustments.  It only lets you turn it 17 and 3/4 moa though, then it stops.  Reason being I am sure is the lock would engage on it if you pass the 0 mark again.  It should take my .308 out 600 yards, which is really plenty for my hunting needs/abilities, but it would be nice if it let you turn more than one revolution of the turret.  OVerall, I think Leupold has done well with it.  I will go zero it today on my lunch break and then when I get some time get data for it out to 600 yards and see how well it does in the adjustment dept.

For the most part, I quite like Leupold scopes.  One of my biggest likes is the alumina flip up caps.  I have them for all 4 of my Leupolds and man they are nice.  That alone makes me look pretty hard a Leupolds when I need new scopes.

I find your thoughts interesting, and I agree with them.  The 2-12x is a fine hunting scope in every way.  I think you will find the duplex reticle to be very usable way past legal shooting light anyway, and yes, it is much better than any Swaro, or any other non illuminated Euro reticle out there.  In fact I call it the best duplex reticle in existence, and I've used loads of them.

As far as the CDS goes, what is the sight in distance on your dial?  Sounds like 100 yds?  If so, you can still zero for whatever you want, then order one of these labels that will just tape right onto the turret.  They work great.

If you don't want to do that, just take the dial off and take out the small ball bearing (zero stop) which will allow you to twist as much as you want.

Yeah I think it is going to be a dandy.  One of the nicer scopes I have owned.

On this one I don't think the zero stop will not work like you are saying.  The actual dial has the stop built into it, there is not ball bearing.  It has a stop machined into the dial itself.  From what I can tell It is built to only allow the 18 moa of adustment.

My dial is just 0 - 18 in MOA, just a standard MOA dial.  Which is what I would prefer, I don't want one that is dedicated to a single load and environmental conditions.  I prefer to zero at 100, then dial for increased yardages.

Sounds good.  I never had one come from the factory with a zero stop.

They have a few new models called ZL for zero lock.

I plan on getting the VX6 CDS-ZL.  Read a lot of great things about the VX-6.  Mounting to a 6.5 Grendel.

Read a couple of reviews that indicated some issues with the ZL not lining up correctly.  Has anyone heard anything about that issue?

Also...the Leupold site indicates (in one of the Q&A) that NO 2-12 has side focus, yet there are pics (I know that can be misleading) that show it and I have seen other retailer websites indicate it is available.  I plan on calling Leupold tomorrow to get a definitive answer, but I am wondering if the side focus is only available on the CDS-ZL versions?

Any help/insight/comments appreciated.

Likely the pics u are seeing is the battery compartment and illumination button for the fire dot. My adjustments line up perfectly. I had read that as well, but my sample is good.
