What a joy it was to find a #1 reticle available in a scope once
again. When I was young and just learning to shoot, I was taught
using a German #1 reticle in an old K-4 Weaver. During an
unfortunate accident, I broke the scope while slipping and sliding down
the slope of a rocky hillside. I managed to break the stock along
with a couple fingers, bruised both knees and my ego. I was able
to replace the stock but there were no companies offering a #1 reticle
on the open market. There were a few "Special Order" reticles but
only in a #4 reticle and at that time you would have to wait about 6
months to get it. I am in no way a huge fan of Leupold scopes or
anything with a "Plex" type reticle. Most of my rifles now have a
#4 reticle or special reticles (S&B PM1, Leupold VHR/B&C,
Burris Ballistic Plex, TDS) and finally a new German #1 reticle.

Neat reticle and very fast. Check the samplelist because we get a lot of scopes in with this reticle and it takes forever to sell them because no one knows what it is.

This isn't official, but I assemble scopes at Leupold, and I've heard that sometime (don't know when) we will be adding a new option for buyers where they can special order scopes with non-standard reticles not otherwise offered. It was mentioned during the last company-wide meeting and they weren't very specific. I'm just a guy who puts parts together to make scopes, so I don't hear everything. As a guess (only a guess) the #1 reticle you prefer will only be available on the VX-III and possibly the LPS scopes, as it is a etched glass reticle and not a wire reticle. The Rifleman, VXI, and VXII lines are only set up for wire reticles as far as I know. Chris, around the assembly floor at Leupold there's a poster hung up in various places showing all the different reticles made at Leupold. If you called and asked they might (repeat, might, I have no idea) send you that same poster, or a PDF of the poster, that you can show to your customers so they can see everything that's available, clearly labeled. Basically, it's all the reticles shown here: http://www.leupold.com/products/reticles.htm But on a poster, and better arranged so you can look over them faster. Hope that helps, VanMojo |
