If I get a Leupold VX-III 4.5x14 with the varmint reticle, can I shoot it on a .308, or is it meant for a lighter/faster bullet? Do the bullet drops work the same with the .308 by sighting in at 200 then using the steps at 300, 400, etc? Can I sight this at 100 and use the steps? What would the drops be? Thanks.

You can, but it will take a little work. You will have to check the ballistic tables to find a lower power where the Ballistic curve matches the closest for your bullet weight. The .308 will have more drop. I have one on a 270 WSM. The ballistics is very close to the drop tables of the 22-250 that the scope is designed around. The windage of the 270 WSM calculates almost half of the deviation of the 22-250 so it is easy to interpolate the scale for the different bullet weight. The same thing can be done for a .308 with study and a little trial and error work. You would be better off to get the B&C Reticle unless you are wanting to put this scope back on a varmint gun. |

Need to follow the rules. Just hard to determine which set of rules to follow Now the rules have changed again. |
