Lyman "Super Target" 20 X - A good choice?

Finally got a Rifle which needs a Scope..!

This is all new to me, and while I have fired Rifles with Iron Sights, and Hand Guns, I have not fired anything with a Scope before.

Rifle is apparently a late 1950s or early 1960s ( I think ) Heavy Barrel, chambering the .22 - 250 Cartridge.

Barrel by "C. H. Morse", Receiver by Mauser, date 1944 with Waffenamt, Stock, probably by Morse also I would guess

Being all new to this, I just wanted to ask your-all opinion, on whether an old Lyman, "Super Target" 20 X Scope, would be an appropriate choice for this Rifle.

I intend to shoot it fairly often, and to learn about general Bench Rest Shooting with it...and to begin loading for it come late March or so.

Barrel is 27 - 1/2 inches from Muzzle to where it meets the Receiver.

Scope Mount Holes are located 1st pair,  just a little in front of the end of the receiver, and, 2nd pair, starting about 8 inches out.

Since the Rifle dates to the late '50s or early '60s ( so far as I gather, anyway ) I just would not feel right outfitting it with a scope which is not from that same time frame.

Whatever Scope I get, if I am not happy, I can put it on something else, ( I have a few other old rifles I have gotten over the last year or so, which are drilled and tapped for Scopes, even though they are not per-se Bench Rest Rifles, they are capable of long range Shooting ) or re sell it, and, keep searching, so...should be fun and interesting, no matter ( unless I spend a big wad on a bad scope, so I will try and be careful! ).

I will go have a look at "samplelist", and report back soon.

Scope technology has progressed so much in the last 20 years I am a bit dumbfounded he wants a "period correct" scope.  If you expect to get the quality scope your talking about thats "period correct" then your going to need deeper pockets I fear.

As long as you stay away from the current SWAT/Military stle scopes there are plenty that wouldn't look bad on that rifle at all... Good luck with your hunt!

Can you suggest some Scopes for me to consider?

"Deeper Pockets" than what a high condition Lyman 'SuperTarget' 20 X would tend to sell for?

Should I be looking for a 1950s/1960s "Urnertl" instead?

So...what is the difference between a "Varmint Scope" and a "Target Scope"?

Or, is there any difference?
